Whats the worst possible scenario in case this unlock doesn't work or ATT refuse to unlock my phone, though i pay the phone in full. I need to stick with ATT? Atleast Verizon auto unlocks after 60 days

ATT will unlock after 60 days. check ATT unlock policy
Worst scenario, you need to pay two month with ATT if esim swap doesn't work.

You may unlock the iPhone sooner(sim swap) with ATT, not Verizon.
You can pay off the phone online with ATT, not Verizon.

AT&T Wireless
Unlock requirements
The following criteria must be met to unlock an AT&T device:

Device bought 60+ days ago: You purchased your AT&T WirelessSM device more than 60 days ago. It isn't active on another AT&T account.
Device paid in full: You paid for your device in full at purchase or paid it off through an installment plan. Your installment balance must be zero before unlocking.
Device not reported lost or stolen: Your device hasn't been reported lost, stolen, or involved in fraud.
Account is current: If you're a current AT&T customer, your bill can't be past due. Sign in to your account to make a payment.

It does NOT mention the line has to have active service. So is it true that the worst is the first month plan (or less if you can get it prorated)?

It's like transferring the pSIM, it's better for iPhone to iPhone, Google for instructions but can be done from iPhone to Android.

When does the verizon activation clock starts for online orders? Does it start when the order is placed, when it's shipped, or when it's activated? I am trying to calculate the 3 days window. So if order is placed on thu, phone is shipped on Fri, I will get it on Sun.. how does the 3 days clock work in this case?
You can assume it starts from Thursday. During the order there is a customer agreement somewhere, it's advisable to keep a copy of it, that might have the number that you can use to setup an account before the phone arrives.

Yes, thats their policy. If SIM swap does not work, you can request unlock after 60 days even without an active account
You should ask CS rep for unlock before cancelling the account though as if they unlock you can then go ahead and cancel the account. SIM swap is the first thing to try though.

That's completely understandable, and I wasn't thinking that you were trying to steal it at all. I was just concerned that Walmart or Verizon wouldn't provide the appropriate papertrail about the phone's status and that either you could lose a phone that you're still on contract for or they could try to pin you with something. You definitely might want to record this whole interaction on your older phone just to better cover your own butt just in case. I'm concerned because Walmart tried to screw me over a few years ago in a different way by refusing to hand my appointed person the phone AFTER I bought it (I have severe asthma/immunocompromised and didn't consent to the phone being unboxed and messed with and this was still during COVID). The phone was already showing up as being on a new AT&T contract with me while Walmart was refusing to hand it over. I was close to calling the police on them since it was contracted to me already, but thankfully AT&T chat box was able to cancel the contract on their end and my appointed person finished the return at Walmart without having left the store the store at all. she never was handed over the phone at all after it was bought, but before it was returned.I can hopefully do the deal online this year with a shit ton of screenshots of everything I agreed to…to cover my own ass…Good luck on your stuff!
It took me another hour and 30 minutes to get money back. They needed a supervisor with the highest rank to process the return for me. It still didn't go smoothly, the system wouldn't show my transaction. Then they ended up refunding me the tax I paid in cash and no receipt was given. They said I need to contact Verizon myself to cancel my plan to avoid future bill.

I believe now a days all carrier requires paid service after required # of days, verizon is 60 days automatic unlocked even when you are still in DPP, att and t-mobile require # of days plus phone is paid in full.

I saw a post mentioning that it was almost 20cdays after purchase that they received the GC. Hopefully, I wont have to wait that long.
