1. Buy the device online and it might deliver in 3 days. ( Pay tax and activation fees)
2. Once you receive the device, activate and cancel the line after paying off by visiting store or online chat.
3. Device unlocks and you will get the activation feee back.
4. Wait for 20 days as per Walmart policy and receive $500 GC
5. Net effective price is device cost - GC + tax and 1 month charge if unable to cancel within 3 days.

Is this true for AT&T and Verizon ?

please reply if I'm wrong here.

Can we switch to T-Mobile after 3 months to qualify for Switch and Keep? Is the Verizon eligible for that?

Which network to choose to easily close the connection and network unlock? Verizon or ATT.
In the past i used to buy new line from Verizon and pay off via phone call to Verizon customer service , i guess that is not working anymore.
How does ATT early pay off and network unlock works. Any one able to successfully close Network and unlock phone. On the worst case verizon auto unlocks in 2 months.
ATT early pay off can be done online after purchase. It can be instantly unlocked after that using SIM swap but if it does not work, ATT policy is also unlock after 60 days even without active service but the unlock portal might not be able to unlock for you, you will have to talk to CS/call etc. It's not automatic like Verizon.

It took me another hour and 30 minutes to get money back. They needed a supervisor with the highest rank to process the return for me. It still didn't go smoothly, the system wouldn't show my transaction. Then they ended up refunding me the tax I paid in cash and no receipt was given. They said I need to contact Verizon myself to cancel my plan to avoid future bill.
Yes returning a post paid device is not something that you really want to do so do this deal if you are quite sure of keeping the phone.

I had the same question, but couldnt find the information. Maybe I didnt check properly.

I saw a post mentioning that it was almost 20cdays after purchase that they received the GC. Hopefully, I wont have to wait that long.

TIA

Was anyone able to order online and pay it off at Verizon store. Regretting ordering online based on the comments . Placed order on Thursday night, it's out for delivery for today evening. Is it worth to try activating and payoff in store, or return and go through ATT option at Walmart store?

The unlock happens after 60 days automatically for Verizon. For ATT you have to do instant unlock using SIM swap or contact them after 60 days

What is the best way to return if the phone is shipped but not delivered yet ?
Can I just deny accepting the delivery? Or do I need to activate and return as the return policy is 14 days?

AT&T Wireless
Unlock requirements
The following criteria must be met to unlock an AT&T device:

Device bought 60+ days ago: You purchased your AT&T WirelessSM device more than 60 days ago. It isn't active on another AT&T account.
Device paid in full: You paid for your device in full at purchase or paid it off through an installment plan. Your installment balance must be zero before unlocking.
Device not reported lost or stolen: Your device hasn't been reported lost, stolen, or involved in fraud.
Account is current: If you're a current AT&T customer, your bill can't be past due. Sign in to your account to make a payment.

It does NOT mention the line has to have active service. So is it true that the worst is the first month plan (or less if you can get it prorated)?
No active service says here.

well if you cannot pay off right the way, you still can wait 30 days to pay off.

There is no best way. The line is already activated so you need to cancel with Verizon/Walmart and then spend a lot of time in Walmart returning the phone. Ideally, you go to walmart and they will take the return and cancel the line but that does not happen as most Walmarts don't have OSL people who does these carrier activations.

Do I understand this correctly?

Best case scenario:
If I buy the phone with AT&T, I'll:
1. Activate the new iPhone 16 on a new AT&T line/plan
2. Do an eSIM swap so that AT&T service moves to my old Samsung S23
3. Then use the AT&T device unlock portal as a "non-AT&T customer" and try to unlock the iPhone
4. Cancel ATT plan

Worse case scenario:
If that doesn't work, I would need to keep the AT&T line active for 60 days (per their official policy), and only then should the phone be eligible to be unlocked. Is that right, or am I missing something?
