There are advantages to doing this with ATT instead of Verizon.

1. After buying the phone in Walmart, you can pay off phone via ATT online chat. For Verizon you have to go to a store.
2. ATT activation fee can be voided instantly from the bill by clicking on "Don't recognize this fee" when the bill arrives even if it's more than 3 days from activation which will mostly happen if you ship it to your house.

3. ATT version can be instantly unlocked using eSIM swap. It's YMMV but for most people it works if you follow the instructions below and do the transfer of the eSIM properly from iPhone to another phone.
4. Even if the eSIM swap does not work I have seen some getting the phone unlocked by chatting with CS once the phone is paid off. That also is YMMV

Sim swap instructions

1. There are two timelines for the cancellation. If you cancel a line before 3 days it was active then the activation fee is waived. If you cancel it within 14 days from activation under buyers remorse then no bill is charged but activation fees need to be paid. But as mentioned earlier that fee can be voided instantly by clicking on "Don't recognize this fee" in the bill even after 3 days.

2. You can use SIM swap method method to unlock the device.

3. When you receive the phone activate it on ATT with the eSIM. Make sure it shows up on myATT app/in the web so ATT knows and registers the IMEI in the network. Then transfer the eSIM to another unlocked phone. Make sure you are transferring the eSIM without making a new one so no ATT involvement. Reboot the other phone, make some calls and make sure this unlocked phone is now showing under the line in app/web portal.

4. Now go to ATT unlock portal https://www.att.com/deviceunlock/ (in incognito mode) and then choose not an ATT customer and use the IMEI of iPhone nd submit an unlock request using a different email, phone number, name etc not associated with the ATT account.

5. Confirm the unlock request email and receive the unlock code.

6. ONLY CANCEL THE LINE AFTER YOU HAVE UNLOCKED THE PHONE. OTHERWISE, YOU MIGHT NOT BE ABLE TO UNLOCK IT ANYMORE.

Edit: Forgot to mention you will have to try the SIM swap roughly 24 hours after paying off the phone. The unlock portal syncs with the billing system every night or so.

Thank you for posting this deal! Is the following correct?

1. Order the iPhone 16 online to take part of this deal
2. Once phone is delivered, activate the phone and place a test call
3. Call Verizon or log into your Verizon account to pay off the phone and cancel your service within 3 days of activation
4. Receive the $500 walmart gift card
5. iPhone is unlocked after 60 days despite not paying for a Verizon plan at all

Explain the reason?
Verizon Device Payment with Down Payment
$-30.53/mo + $2298.00 down
36 months, 0% APR
I saw someone post a screenshot on the other thread WMT | $500 Gift card with Iphone 16 Pro and $300 Gift Card with Iphone 16 | New line activation on Verizon or ATT |
This was what I figured out from the screenshot that they posted:

I think the website is doing several goofs that will hopefully be resolved by the time Event02 occurs…if not you could opt for trying to do it in a walmart store.

The screenshot initially says that the retail price is $1,199.00

The 1st real goof is when they say "financing with Verizon is (-$1,099.00)" they're actually ADDING it onto the original retail price of the device.

Hence the down payment being $2,298.00 ($1,199.00+$1,099.00=$2,298.00) instead of a $100.00 ($1,199.00-$1,099.00=$100.00) down payment.

The 2nd real goof is if you look at the monthly phone contract price where if you paid between $0.00-$100.00 down payment and had to pay the remainder of the phone off over 36 months it SHOULD have been $30.53/month, but THEY'RE SUBTRACTING THAT AMOUNT INSTEAD! (-$30.53/month)

Hence the $30.53 is being subtracted from the monthly phone line price of $75.00. ($75.00-$30.53=$44.47/month)

It's just weird. You could always complain to Walmart customer service chat about the glitches (definitely get a reference number for the chat).

The fact that this deal looks like it will be available for Event02 might make them actually look into this glitch before then since they seem to really want people to buy their stock of older phones…

Or you could go into a walmart store before Event01 ends and see if they can help. Though they're more unlikely to have whatever size/model you want in stock, but you could call around your local stores to see if someone has it and can hold it until you can get there.

Good luck!

Do I understand this correctly?

Best case scenario:
If I buy the phone with AT&T, I'll:
1. Activate the new iPhone 16 on a new AT&T line/plan
2. Do an eSIM swap so that AT&T service moves to my old Samsung S23
3. Then use the AT&T device unlock portal as a "non-AT&T customer" and try to unlock the iPhone
4. Cancel ATT plan

Worse case scenario:
If that doesn't work, I would need to keep the AT&T line active for 60 days (per their official policy), and only then should the phone be eligible to be unlocked. Is that right, or am I missing something?
I guess you need to pay off phone in full before go for unlock

any idea how many can we get in total?
Heard a Walmart rep telling someone that the max is 3 lines for ATT. I have no way of verifying if it's true.

What do you think could be a reason for this swap wouldn't go through? Like you mentioned this method works for most people, but its still YMMV. What could go wrong? Since the logic is pretty clear: the phone purchase isn't linked to any carrier plan, so we're supposed to be free to pay it off in full and move the line to another phone. I don't see even a place for a possible caveat, but maybe you know one.

Could you elaborte the second point, please? You mean, you checked out your ATT account to doublecheck if the other phone (not the new iPhone) is shown up as your phone now? Correct? Because gadgetNerd in his instruciton pointed out there shouldn't be ATT involvement during esim swap.
No. In the middle of eSIM swap, in my case, my 2nd phone is directed to AT&T to confirm I'm requesting phone swap…. This is different from what gadgetNerd said…. Just want to share… it did worry me a lot… but the unlock request do go through….
One more thing, ATT unlock confirmation email doesn't have any information on unlocking code or steps…. But the phone was unlocked the moment I got the email. (Maybe that is what is called auto unlocking)

My eSIM swap/transfer seems to be different from what it described(no att involvement). And also I tried it on two phones to get it done - the first one could not initiate the transfer request) So it's a big ymmv. Don't mention that, after you get esim swap done, your ATT account shows only the 2nd phone. So if unlock did not work, not sure how to fix it

Could you please elaborate what the other phone is, and if/how you got the esim swapped? Thanks!

Was your 2nd phone also iPhone? Did you need to login to the new iPhone with the same Apple ID first?

You can search YouTube for it. It involves quite some steps that hard to describe it here clearly. And ymmv!!! My suggestion is - better try it out with a spare phone for the first time before trying it directly on this deal. My 2 cents.

Both phones I tried are iPhones. I don't know why one works the other doesn't. I didn't login into Apple ID on the iPhone 16 pro . As I said, tried it out on a spare phone first

Has anyone did this deal for T-Mobile yet?
Has anyone done T-mobile in store and got the giftcard right away?
Is it possible to use the giftcard from the first device to buy another device and get a giftcard?

Just ordered the Verizon one (I am already on a corporate Verizon plan). Says delivers Nov 24th. Is there something that I need to do much sooner/urgently (before I receive the order)? Thank you.

I have a Verizon family plan with 5 lines. Can I buy at Walmart by adding a line, pay all but $1 and then just call in to cancel the line? Since I am keeping the 5 I have will they just bill me the leftover $1
Yes you can add and then cancel a line but it's recommended to pay it off before cancelling but I think if not they will send you a final bill with the remaining $1

"You should ask CS rep for unlock before cancelling the account" - what does it mean - do you have to pay 2month phone service to be active; or cancel the service but leave the account on?
The scenario I was talking about is asking CS for unlock after you pay it off and SIM swap does not work. CS reps are going to respond to you properly if you have an active service with them so it's something you should do if the phone is not unlocked by other means before cancelling. Their policy for unlock does state active service so you should be able to contact them to unlock after 60 days no matter what.

Yes but then again it's a recent update, see their policy https://www.att.com/support/artic...KM1008728/ here taking about automatic unlock for Google/Samsung/apple phones.

Can we buy two under the same account for Verizon (one after the other to use $500 GC) and then pay off the account or better to do one line per account? Hope someone can help as I am at the store.
You can do multiple lines. It my be trickyto open three separate post paid accounts with the same SSN.
