There are advantages to doing this with ATT instead of Verizon.

1. After buying the phone in Walmart, you can pay off phone via ATT online chat. For Verizon you have to go to a store.
2. ATT activation fee can be voided instantly from the bill by clicking on "Don't recognize this fee" when the bill arrives even if it's more than 3 days from activation which will mostly happen if you ship it to your house.

3. ATT version can be instantly unlocked using eSIM swap. It's YMMV but for most people it works if you follow the instructions below and do the transfer of the eSIM properly from iPhone to another phone.
4. Even if the eSIM swap does not work I have seen some getting the phone unlocked by chatting with CS once the phone is paid off. That also is YMMV

Sim swap instructions

1. There are two timelines for the cancellation. If you cancel a line before 3 days it was active then the activation fee is waived. If you cancel it within 14 days from activation under buyers remorse then no bill is charged but activation fees need to be paid. But as mentioned earlier that fee can be voided instantly by clicking on "Don't recognize this fee" in the bill even after 3 days.

2. You can use SIM swap method method to unlock the device.

3. When you receive the phone activate it on ATT with the eSIM. Make sure it shows up on myATT app/in the web so ATT knows and registers the IMEI in the network. Then transfer the eSIM to another unlocked phone. Make sure you are transferring the eSIM without making a new one so no ATT involvement. Reboot the other phone, make some calls and make sure this unlocked phone is now showing under the line in app/web portal.

4. Now go to ATT unlock portal https://www.att.com/deviceunlock/ (in incognito mode) and then choose not an ATT customer and use the IMEI of iPhone nd submit an unlock request using a different email, phone number, name etc not associated with the ATT account.

5. Confirm the unlock request email and receive the unlock code.

6. ONLY CANCEL THE LINE AFTER YOU HAVE UNLOCKED THE PHONE. OTHERWISE, YOU MIGHT NOT BE ABLE TO UNLOCK IT ANYMORE.

Edit: Forgot to mention you will have to try the SIM swap roughly 24 hours after paying off the phone. The unlock portal syncs with the billing system every night or so.

Not started yet. I don't like gc promotion because you have to pay tax on the full amount.

Thank you for posting this deal! Is the following correct?

1. Order the iPhone 16 online to take part of this deal
2. Once phone is delivered, activate the phone and place a test call
3. Call Verizon or log into your Verizon account to pay off the phone and cancel your service within 3 days of activation
4. Receive the $500 walmart gift card
5. iPhone is unlocked after 60 days despite not paying for a Verizon plan at all

This might see like a stupid question, but i will ask. I havepaid off and cancelled the line with verizon. I can now do a factory reset of the phone, erase esim etc., and it should still unlock within 60days if connected to wifi, right? TIA
How did you pay off?

First you can pay the phone off. Then You can open a new line with ATT and use the phone on that account.
Thanks, but it seems ai dan change phone number under wireless management for other lines on my plan but for this one is not there since I have the new phone. In this case I can just activate phone and the change phone number will appear I assume.

Just picked up mine from store . Deposit $960 in total - 898 for 16 pro and 62 in tax . $1 left to owe with Verizon, which I will pay in store and cancel the line today only.

Got $500 gift card as soon as you pay at store.
Any reason you didnt pay off full and left $1? I paid full in store and have not received the giftcard even after 2 days.

Dont recognize this fee, is that you do on the credit card side or in your ATT account?

Also if I dont receive the GC I want to return this phone. The walmart wouldnt take it, how would one return the phone? when you call ATT, the ATT says you have to return where you bought it. The walmart online says since it is not a walmart.com order, they cant help.

I paid off the phone at the time of store purchase, was able to unlock the phone online. can I go ahead and cancel the line? Havent received the GC yet and I need to leave an option to return the phone in case the GC doesnt come in 3-5 days.
It's on the ATT bill, see wiki of this thread https://slickdeals.net/f/17327499-oneplus-nord-n30-5g-128gb-unlocked-chromatic-gray-cph2513-best-buy-0.

Returning post paid phones is a tricky situation that I'd not want to be in but I suggest you don't cancel the line for a few days while you chat with Walmart for GC.

How did you unlock the ATT version of the Iphone? eSIM swap method? Did you first pay off the remaining balance then wait 24 hours before you proceeded with the unlock steps? How many days has it been since you activated the phone when purchased instore?

Yeah, the number might only appear after you activate the phone.

For ATT variant has it been confirmed if you actually need to have it in service for 60 days before it unlocks or can you cancel with 3 days and it will automatically unlock after 60 days of activation? Of course, if we can do the eSIM swap unlock then it won't matter whether in service for 60 days or not.

i just tried and got the following messages:"We're sorry, but we can't unlock your device just yet. Submit a new unlock request after your service has been active for at least 60 days."
Wait after midnight 1am.

For ATT does the phone need to be active for 60 days if we want it to unlock automatically or just 60 days after activation (and line canceled within 3 days of activation)?

I paid off the entire balance at the time of purchase and then just submitted online request to unlock and it was unlocked immidiately. Now I'm stuck with not receicing the GC because the walmart says it should have been on the installment plan to receive the GC.

Did anyone receive the bonus even if they paid it off right at the store during the ativation process? can't return it either. Anyone know a way out of this mess? I think the phone guy didnt know about this nuance and said you will receive the GC even if you pay off the phone.

I saw some people were having an issue pay off hence decided to pay off at the store instead of later by chat with att etc.

Someone today said here that he paid it off by calling Verizon on 611. Give it a try and let us know.
I received my phone iPhone 16 pro today. I tried your 611 suggestion, spoke with an agent and told him I wanted to payoff my device and he sent me a link to pay it off with my credit card. He said the link expires in a few minutes so I did it on the spot while on the phone with him. Confirmed it went thru and got my receipt. I now need to log in on my computer, chat, and see if it'll let me cancel my line.

The longer I wait the more charges I would incure for service I dont use. What is the longest you can wait and get activation fee and other charges back from ATT?

As of last year it was not automatic like Verizon but from the recent update on their unlock policy https://www.att.com/support/artic...KM1008728/

"If you have an eligible Apple, Samsung, or Google device on an AT&T Wireless plan and it meets all the requirements, it should unlock by itself. Apple Watch is always unlocked"

I don't know if anyone has confirmed it worked.
