The movie Trading Places,

In 2001, Eddie Murphy stated that the making of this film was the most fun he'd had on a set and that every film afterward felt like "work".

Eddie Murphy later admitted that on the floor of the commodities exchange in the final scene, he only followed the script; he had no idea what was going on, as he found commodities trading incredibly confusing.

Every year since 1997, Italian channel "Italia 1" broadcasts the movie on Christmas Eve nightfall. It regularly gets more than 10% of share. Again, on December 24, 2021 it was the most watched show on prime time TV with a 14.6% share.

According to John Landis, Jamie Lee Curtis was a hard sell to Paramount, because she had only done horror films and wasn't known for comedy. But he admitted her willingness to perform topless helped change executives' minds at Paramount after they saw a photo of her in a bikini. They felt that would help sell the movie.

Penelope's (Kristin Holby) friend Muffy is played by Kelly Curtis, the sister of Jamie Lee Curtis.

John Landis directed Eddie Murphy in this movie, as well as Beverly Hills Cop III (1994) and Coming to America (1988).

In a 1990 interview, Jamie Lee Curtis originally said she didn't regret appearing topless in this movie. "My breasts are beautiful, and I gotta tell you, they've gotten a lot of attention for what is relatively short screen time." she told the Chicago Tribune.

The number given to Dan Aykroyd (Louis Winthorpe III) in his mug shot, 74745058, is the same number given to John Belushi (Jake Blues) in The Blues Brothers (1980). Aykroyd did this as a tribute to Belushi who had died the year previous.

Beverly Hills Cop trivia

The original title was Beverly Drive, not Beverly Hills Cop.

According to Murphy, he chose Beverly Hills Cop over Ghostbusters because Ghostbusters was an ensemble, whereas Beverly Hills Cop was a chance to prove himself as a leading man.

As The New York Times reported when the film was released, Murphy was encouraged to improvise and write his own lines during filming.

Case in point: The beloved banana-in-the-tailpipe scene was originally written with a potato, but Murphy changed it to a banana.

Hilarious scene!

Axel Foley's Detroit-based boss, Inspector Todd, was played by real-life Detroit homicide detective Gil Hill. He later became a Detroit city councilman. He once remarked that the only real difference between him and his character was that he didn't swear as much.

The industry screening of Beverly Hills Cop was disastrous, with almost no laughs. Still, the producers at Paramount believed in it, and it went on to be the biggest movie of 1984, outperforming even Ghostbusters, Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, Gremlins and The Karate Kid.

According to Murphy, Beverly Hills Cop changed cop movies. Or as he put it, "Before that movie, cops were 'Go ahead, make my day' and Charles Bronson and Clint Eastwood. After that movie is when cops started having little wisecracks. After that movie, all the cops tried to be kind of funny."

Financially speaking, Beverly Hills Cop II was even more successful than the first movie, earning $299 million at the box office worldwide. It was the second biggest movie of 1987, beating out Platoon, Predator and the first Lethal Weapon, but coming in behind Fatal Attraction.

Murphy has called Axel Foley his "most important role," explaining that "before Beverly Hills Cop, there had never been a movie starring a Black man — a Black person — that was successful all around the world."

This is the cleanest and nicest police car I've ever been in in my life.

Yeah, and we're not gonna fall for a banana in the tailpipe.

Can you put this in a good spot? 'Cause all of this sh*t happened the last time I parked here.

Before I go, I just want you two to know something, alright? The supercop story... was working. Okay? It was working, and you guys just messed it up. Okay? I'm trying to figure you guys out, but I haven't yet. But it's cool. You f*ck up a perfectly good lie.

I remember you used to drive that crappy blue Chevy Nova. (both laughing at that) What are you driving now?

Axel Foley: Same crappy blue Chevy Nova.

🤣🤣🤣🤣

You add Fandango at Home as an app to your streaming box.
Hope that helps since I don't know if it is Apple, Fire TV, Windows, Linux, etc.
