Blade tenderizing is a process where a machine with needles punctures meat to break down connective tissue, making it more tender. This practice can push surface bacteria, like E. coli, into the center of the meat, so it should be cooked to a minimum internal temperature of

145∘F145 raised to the composed with power cap F
145∘𝐹
for three minutes to be safe, similar to ground beef. This process is common for pre-cut steaks at stores like Costco, and their labels indicate when meat is blade tenderized.

I think the only exception I've seen so far is the filet mignon.

Raleys is not selling USDA Prime ribeye for $7/lb that I'm aware of. Raleys mostly deals in lesser Choice, Select, or ungraded beef for their specials. Not the same.

Online says Raleys is $27.99 for Prime Ribeye - IF your store has that grade, AND it's bone in, not boneless:
https://www.raleys.com/product/10...ak-bone-in

It depends on how big of a pack you get at Costco for how much of a discount it works out to be, but assuming that you get a $250 pack (I think the smallest size) with the discount it works out to about $14/lb - HALF Raley's Prime bone-in price.

I'm totally ignorant on this. Can you give a quick idea of what you're saying? Thanks, Dylan

Nice find. Smallest I saw was about $320 but I picked up a slightly larger one for uniformity.
Price was $19.99/lb, before the discount.

I mean, the math was there for you to work this out pretty easily in the original post, but...

It was $19.99/lb at ours before discount. The discount on a $300 pack brought it down to $15/lb. If you can find a pack around $250 (or ask the meat department if they have any), it becomes $14/lb. You basically want to get the smallest packs they have to maximize the discount.

Costco Prime beef has worked out pretty well for us in the marbling department in the past. It's the Select grades where you have to watch out, IMO (I don't think they carry Choice). This deal is for the Prime beef.
Costco sells little select beef, mostly thru their business centers, the majority of what they sell ischoice and then some prime.

What's the net price per pound roughly? I normally get it at raleys during Xmas with their deal it's about $7/lb for pretty solid quality. Marbling is just a smidge below prime but way above choice if you have a good selection
With beef prices going up so much, wondering how much they'll price it this year. Closer to $10 I'd bet, plus Raley's is not boneless.

Did you ask the meat dept to bring out some smaller packs from the back?

Embarrassing? On Slickdeals? The deal is the THING. The singular pursuit.

You'll likely have less of that the longer you're deal hunting. Besides, in this case, it's literally their job. The guys in our Costco meat dept are only happy to help. If it's the difference between $14/lb and $15/lb, I'm definitely asking - that's a difference of almost $20/pack.

For ungraded, maybe, but very unlikely to have USDA Prime ribeye for this price per lb.

It's a little over $16/lb and you have to buy 18+ lbs. ($300+).

No one HAS to buy anything.

18lbs is $360. With the discount that comes to $15.82/lb, not $17/lb, not even $16/lb.

You'd have to buy ~$400 to get the price to $16.25/lb.

You'd have to buy $500 to get the price to $17/lb. Buying two $250 packs instead of one $500 pack will literally save you another $3/lb.

The DEAL is for packs between $250 and $350. Pretty clear in the OP. If the packs are bigger than that at your Costco and the meat department says they don't have any smaller packs in back, then walk away.

Anyone know if this can be used as a prime rib roast, or only for cutting into individual steaks?

Chat GPT says "yes."

"Yes — a whole ribeye primal (a full "export rib," typically 6–7 bones if bone-in, or a boneless ribeye roll) can absolutely be cut into prime rib roasts. Prime rib is simply the standing rib roast version of the same muscle group."

But I would double check with the costco meat dept when you're there. Trust but verify with ChatGPT.

Was able to get a small $215 package. So $140/10.75 =$13 a pound. Also got my hands on a $300 package. Most were around the $300 range. At the end of the day it's hit or miss, the smaller package was like 15% fat while the bigger one didn't have much fat and a thick cap.
