Oil threads are fun no matter where you are on the internet.

It's more of a rhetorical question, but when is the last time you heard of a modern car dying or seeing irreparable damage because of oil choice?

I still send every 3rd or 4th change to Blackstone Labs and never had a single thing meaningfully out of spec in almost 30 years across 5-6 cars.

For those who just want a good everyday price, use the Walmart brand full synthetic at a good price. I send my oil in to Blackstone as well and my engine is great after 190k miles and 10k mile oil changes.

Good to know, I've been wary of Supertech and Kirkland and the other private labels, I might be swayed. But a few extra bucks over the course of a year is cheap mental insurance Wink

[QUOTE=1n4one;180222556]Fwiw. Saw this video last night, pretty informative on the intent of 0w-20 vs 5w-30. https://youtu.be/pdQxer5U2Ng?si=e3bPas1iOa6dintH[/QUOTE

Toyota recommends 5W30 for the same engine sold outside the US. Engineers are controlled by bean counters who demand maximum fuel mileage to avoid the US Corporate Average Fuel Economy tax.

Fuel pump, a core component of fuel injected engine rarely fails. Those in 1985 Celica and 1986 626 are still delivering +75 psi fuel after 40 years of service. Honda and Toyota are replacing over a million modern fuel pumps dating back to 2017! Today's cars cost more, but are designed to fail early to generate more revenue.

Pros seeks out used cars without turbo, direct injection, electric water pump, electric steering, etc... These items will fail prematurely, and then it's time to buy another car.

Will this work on my Tesla?
For sure, just make sure to sprinkle it generally over the white seats, don't be cheap by applying only a light coat.

3 reasons I'm not risking with this deal

1. They could deny the rebate as it was clearanced.
2. Rebate is not cash back but Advanced Auto parts gift card. I have rarely shopped there due to inflated prices.
3. I am stocked up currently and Costco frequently has this on sale for $15 for 5 qts or even better.

Good, if you get the rebate and you do shop at AAP.

I would never use a 0w even for hybrids, these oil are too thin and will cause damage to engine all for the small increase in fuel economy. Not worth the risk.

The rebate conditions sound like each 5 qts needs to be on a separate receipt. Can I buy multiple in one transaction?

"Limit six (6) per household; a separate form/receipt is required for each transaction."
That just means that if you have separate transactions, you need to submit them separately, not that you must have separate transactions.

That's because you're clueless on hybrids. Many manufacturers/manuals even recommend some 0 weight oils.
So either it's a huge conspiracy of them trying to destroy their own engines or obviously your overly generic car "advice" doesn't apply Roll Eyes (Sarcastic)

If you plan to hold the car for a while, AAP premium brake pads are totally worth the cost. They don't dirty up the wheels quickly and last a good long time. Get them on sale, and enjoy free replacements for life. You brake (lol) even on the 2nd set. I had a caliper stick, causing extreme uneven wear, and there was no problem at all swapping them for a new set. They even upgraded me since they changed their brake pads since I bought them.
