These are meant for things like thin laptops(like Microsoft Surfaces), handhelds(like Steam Deck) and mini pcs. I toss my old 2230 drives into small 3.2 USB external enclosures to keep as fast USB drives.
I wish we can use these to make our external ssd for series x|s

To install a fresh OS, put the drive in your computer, put a bootable OS installer on a flash drive and plug it in to your computer. Turn your computer on and follow the prompts.

For an existing OS, you can clone it using software like Macrium Reflect or Diskgenius.
Or CloneZilla for free

Which enclosure brands do you recommend?

Price aside, how does this compare with the MP600 MN 2230?

How do you transfer and install complete os plus data on to this?
I use an external dock for them personally. You can buy one for about 17 dollars on amazon most days. the one I use handles all of the NVME drives all the way to the full size ones. Its a solid aluminum case with a USB connection to my pc. really amazing how small storage has gotten over the years if you think about it. I remember hoping to be the first person in my city to accomplish a full terabyte of storage back in the platter Hard drive days. Then again I also remember using actual 5.5 inch floppy discs and taking a hole punch to notch the side and make them double sided to get 1.3ish mb on them

This would work with the Z1 and Z1E ROG Ally's without the JSAUX mod right?
That's correct. The m.2 2230 drive fits the Asus ROG Ally Z1 and Z1 Extreme without a mod.

Yes with something like this you could.

Seems overkill for the price vs a SATA drive though but low failure rates as solid state.

I'm seeing mixed messages about whether this uses TLC or QLC.

The Amazon product page mentions "G8 NAND", which Micron says is "G8 QLC NAND flash memory".

B&H Photo and Microcenter both say "3D TLC NAND"

https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/pr..._gen4.html

https://www.microcenter.com/produ...ternal-ssd

The Crucial website is cagey about it, and doesn't actually specify what type of memory they use. But in the footnotes it says "Micron reserves the right to transition between NAND series during future production cycles."

https://www.crucial.com/ssd/p310/CT2000P310SSD2

Anyone know the truth of the matter?

Is this the same size and speed to fit a Mac Mini M4?
