No, if you leave T-Mobile or disconnect the line before the end term of your EIP then the remaining EIP credits will be forfeited. T-Mobile changed this policy a while back so you must stay for the entire 24 months term.
That policy always has been case (cancel and pay the full price).

The policy they changed is when a new deal comes along you used to be able to upgrade 1 year into your payment credits, and they payment credits would convert to monthly account credits.

I stand corrected. What I should have stated was "cannot pay off device prior to end term and continue to receive EIP credit"

I'm abroad right now with limited bandwidth. Can anyone confirm that Magenta Max qualifies? TY in advance.
I have the essentials plan with 4 lines, and got this deal, I'd imagine your plan would apply as well.

my pixel 8 has the dreaded vertical blue line on the screen, no practical way to fix it 😡

Do we need to put the imei of the device while ordering? I am thinking of buying a cheap phone and use that to tradein
Yeah. I did the same thing of buying a cheap $90 Samsung 21 FE, and asked the seller to give me the IMEI before shipping it out.
Order process from memory:
They ask for IMEI to verify promo amount -> condition of phone -> costco membership number -> Shipping address -> credit card number to pay for taxes -> sign agreement in email -> wait for phone within three days (I am currently at this stage) -> send the old phone within 30 days via mail or T-Mobile store -> wait for costco gift card.

Just upgraded through Costco. Same deal, except they charged me $6 for the shipping, which I found odd

Yep, went through their phone number here:
https://www.costco.com/t-mobile-b...wcase.html

Plan: Magenta 55+
Got the $800 trade in promo, the $100 Costco card, and the free Pixel Buds 2a so the "online-exclusive" banner on T-Mobile's site is false lol.

Anyone with a Costco membership considering this deal really should just go this route.
I didn't realize you could upgrade via costco through calling. Glad to hear it all worked out, go and ear buds. I opted to upgrade via tmo site due to not wanting to go to the store (not close). Next time I know.

Which trade-in phone makes the most sense if I have to "buy" one?
probably the S10e

did they charge you shipping for the buds? For whatever reason, my order was processed separately in their portal, so the buds came out to $0, but had to pay for shipping

I see, so the guy just botched my order. Strange that they were able to process it separately for "free"

Same here, through Costco and $6 shipping. Under $50 for everything. One plan and tradeded in pixel 8, had to pay off 130 remaining balance, but I should get that credit back since my eip was before July 2024.

If I use this upgrade and I break my phone after year, what happens? I can buy a new phone but is that a problem with the old one having monthly payments/credits? I won't pay for insurance on my phone.

You can have several EIP's on your plan. Someone here mentioned the account limit is weighted by t-mobile, up to the max of $5k worth of EIP at a time. If you ask the rep, they should be able to tell you your account limit

I've never heard of this rule and the rep never mentioned it. Only asked about IMEI and condition. Guess I'll find out when I head in to a T-Mobile store to send the old phone away

Called costco but the rep mentioned ear buds are not free with this offer. I will only be getting $100 shop card.
