Based on reddit reviews, this is a newer Costco exclusive, and seems to have generally positive feedback. I have been wanting one for a long time (had a blendtec and a ninja,) and almost pulled the trigger on this Vitamix when it went on sale for $320 recently at Costco, but did not. I am now ordering one at this price. I have a large family so the large pitcher works I do not want the auto detect, as that seems to be a negative in reviews of the versions that include it. I know the 5200 is "better" for smaller batches, but I need large batches, and the 5200 has a really tall pitcher. And the Costco return policy is a huge plus!

I picked up one of these a little while back, when it first hit a $320 sale. Since then, I've already used it dozens of times and it's awesome. This blender is definitely a beast and it has had no problem whatsoever tackling everything I've thrown at it. For anyone who uses a blender with some regularity, or who would if they had a better blender, this is heartily recommended. 👍👍

I picked an Alta Pro about a month ago when they were on sale for $320. I came from a mid-tier BlendTec and I've been very happy with the Vitamix so far.

This is a great deal at $299 ($100 off) which should run from 11/17 through 12/1.

I passed on the October deals for the 5200 and the refurbished Venturist Pro after coming across the Alta Pro.

Some research I put together before my purchase...

The Alta Pro is a new Costco specific model that replaces the prior Costco specific Venturist Pro.

The Alta Pro is nearly identical to the Ascent X2. The Alta has one less program setting but accepts both the classic and detect containers. I prefer the lids on the classic containers and did not want to deal with the known Detect issues or the RFID to hack required to get around Detect.

The Alta Pro is similar to the Propel 710. The Alta includes a timer but two fewer programs.

The 5200 is an older style with a weaker motor, can run into cooling issues, and has no programs or timer.

The 5200 does come with the skinny but tall 64 oz container. This container is too tall to fit on a blender when under a normal kitchen cabinet. But it is also better for making small servings like personal smoothies than the newer style low profile 64 oz containers.

The container dilemma can be resolved by adding the 32oz container which has similar dimensions at the base and the same 3" blade size as the tall / skinny 64 oz container but is also lower profile. You could also add the tall/skinny 64 oz container if you can live with it's height.

The Venturist Pro has the updated motor and cooling but also has Detect which requires the Detect containers. I don't care for the hard plastic lids on the Detect containers.

This site [joyofblending.com] is a great resource for Vitamix blender and container compatibility. The Alta Pro will fall into the "Classic" style. Some of the links / model info for the Detect containers have changed due to newer revisions, but the container compatibility info is still relevant.

There was a deal for the 5200 very recently on amazon for the same price. Seems like this is a slightly better blender with a better motor and a better warranty,10 years vs 7?

I think that is right from what I see. The 5200 also has a tall jar which some people prefer, especially for small batches, but not for storage.

The peak 2 hp 5200 motor base is a holdover from the Viramix 20th century line of low power economy blenders targeting consumers. The TV testers who hype the 5200 are obsessed with the tall container apparently unaware that the 1195 container can be purchased separately for $100 from restaurant suppliers and works with most other bases except the those which have RFID like Ascent.

The commercial version is the powerful 62827 $413 w tall 64 oz. 8 in. W x 9 in. D x 20.3 in. H ,,11.5 A, 2.3 HP # Its a;so a available as a 3.3 HP model for an extra c spot.

The weight of Alto Pro is only 10 lbs, vs 13 to 14 lbs dfro classic model. The size of the motor is not disclosed so it is less than the standard 2.2 ho and even less than the Econimy models with 2.0 HP. The mini motor in this may struggle to reach 1.0 HP at one half the usual 37.000 RPM. It;s a mixer not a blender.

The vitamix website shows horsepower as 2.2 under the specifications tab for the Alto Pro:

Your link is not supporting your claim. Some pages support it others for not. The Costco page says that their version weighs 10.3 pounds. $300 black deal. YYMV but for that price I want a U.S. made 7500. Not a fan of Vitamix line of cost-reduced mixers. I bought 4 of the E320's and quickly disposed of them. Sold by Costco gives a certain amount of assurance but that evaporates if you allow your membership to lapse.

Hmm, not sure why the link is not working. I googled Vitamix and Alta Pro and it links to a Vitamix webpage that shows 2.2 HP for the Alta Pro. I don't dispute it being 10.3 pounds. I have not seen (or researched) the 7500, but it looks very similar. I've been a Costco member for 20+ years, so no worries there, but thanks for the heads up.

Is it true that if you allow your membership expire you can't return items?

Costco's listed weight is most likely wrong. Vitamix.com lists the Alta Pro at 12.5 lbs.

And the Owners Manual for the Alta Pro lists it at 12 A, 1440W, same as the Propel/Ascent, etc.

This motor is a 2.2 HP. You told others who shared links to Vitamix that their link didn't show such info. This link does show it. It can be found in the specifications section https://www.vitamix.com/mx/en_us/shop/alta-pro

Today the price is $320 which is great considering the excellent warranty which includes parts labor and shipping both ways for 10 years. Costco currently accepts returns with no time limit. Buy it and see what you think. Could be awesome. Never had one in my hands, Costco is still listing the weight as 10.2 lbs which is what their counter-dancing economy models weigh. IME Vitamix is one of those things where comparing specs on paper and reading testimonials is not helpful.

Vitamix doesn't make motors they bid them out just like all the other components. Assembled in the U.S.A from imported parts which is fine. There is not a single "2.2 HP motor which is the new motor and the one you want". Noise and durability of the motor depends on the supplier Vitamix specs are subject to change.

The Costco E320 had a "2.2 HP motor" yet it is clearly not in the same league as a 7500 with a much better 2.2 HP motor and internal alloy frame. E series is the economy series with a plastic internal frame and less sound insulation. Presented as "Intro to Vitamix" The E320's which I tried emitted a high pitch screeching noise requiring hearing protection. The vibration was really bad.

All manufacturers are engaging in cost reduction while keeping the model name and exterior appearance the same. People post that they have had the same model for 20 years and its great. Means nothing.

People are saying that Alta Pro accepts both classic and ascent "self detect" containers. That's a great feature because the extremely versatile 32 oz will not work with any base which requires RFID containers.
