If you have a credit freeze with equifax, make sure to unfreeze around an hour before you purchase. The payment won't go through if you have a freeze.

Curious on this too. I tried 2x, kept hanging on setting up your payment. Put 2 holds on my card but transaction didn't go through, but my credit is frozen. Now the pay in 4 option doesn't even show up.
Quote from Abhi88 :
i had to unfreeze it to get approved for the 4 payments. It seems like a soft pull, i did a temp unfreeze. It will say select alternative payment first time when it fails. Just go back and retry again to select the same method. It worked next time , approved in a second
Thanks. So its very clear we have to unfreeze first, make the purchase and maybe a few days lates freeze it back.

If you have a Chase Freedom credit card that requires the quarterly activation for certain categories to get 5% cash back, there is a way to double dip an extra 5% and increase this PayPal offer from 20% to 25% cash back in the month of December only. This is possible because Chase is offering 5% cash back only in the month of December for PayPal purchases. So to get the 25%, link your Chase Freedom credit card to your PayPal account and pay for everything with PayPal Pay Later using only that "activated" Chase Freedom credit card, and make sure all of your purchases are only in the month of December and no other time. This extra 5% cash back is actually coming from Chase and is good for up to $1,500 in combined purchases.

This is a cut and paste after I activated my Chase Freedom quarterly categories to show you exactly what I'm talking about:

5% cash back
Current quarter
Earn 5% cash back on up to $1,500 in
combined purchases

Old Navy
Chase Travel
Department Stores
PayPal (for month of December only)
Oct 01 - Dec 31, 2025
Activated

I did not. But almost immediately after paying, I went to my "activity" tab on PayPal, and the pending purchase shows you how many points you get back, and it was 20%

I am looking to buy a new PC, is it possible to use this to buy a $2000-$2500 pc at once and still get the $250 in cashback? I am concerned if you spend over 1250 in one go it won't count.
It will work. The rewards will just max out at $250 regardless of how much you go over.

Up to $1250 spend is per transaction. Reads to me as if it can be used multiple times. This is going to be quite good - like almost as good as the Bing 30% cashback from way back when.
Edit: Sounds like it's total spend of $1250, but can be spread across multiple purchases. Still pretty darned great!
I still dream of that Bing 30% deal. That was a ridiculous deal that had so many loopholes. Its a wonder Microsoft didn't go bankrupt from it.

That was definitely one of the all time great deals but a completely insignificant cost to a company the size of M$

Have a 1600 purchase i wanna make and they take PayPal but guess I'm
Out of luck since it's over the threshold

Would monthly work or is the purchase too much
Can you not go over the threshold and they just max out the cash back at 20 percent of $1250?

I'm trying to buy something on eBay and use PayPal pay later to take advantage of this offer but I only see PayPal which will use my credit card and PayPal Credit which allows me to pay over time but it's not the same as Pay Later so the offer wouldn't work.

I tried removing my PayPal account from the Payments section of my account and adding again but the list of methods only come up with credit cards, not an option for Pay Later.

This is for a buy it now item, not auction. Sucks, I would totally buy the item I've been watching with if this offer worked.
Try removing paypal as a payment method and don't add it back. Then choose it on checkout and it will ask for account. This worked for me.

One transaction only or it works on multiple up to a total of $1250 spend?
Never used pay later -- they say no impact on credit report/score, but how does it work exactly that and what other implications there may be for those that care for their credit?
