Avoid Aliexpress via Paypal. All, yes ALL, transactions are being processed by Paypal as cash advance! Resulting in Credit Card Issuer inflicting a cash advance transaction fee + accrual of daily interest as high as 28% APR! No way to resolve and all three companies (CC, AE & Paypal) will circle jerk the finger pointing of who is responsible with no solution. Reddit is exploding with many customers getting hit with these fees in the tune of 10's and even 100's of dollars. Avoid!!!

Paying the balance early in Pay Monthly won't violate the terms.

Remove your PayPal account from eBay payment first. Now after making a purchase, it will redirect you to PayPal, pick 'pay in 4' from there.

I had used this successfully on two deals in one day. That was the limit I was allowed. I also did the pay monthly deal, which was successful, but I haven't been able to use the pay monthly option again despite having paid off the pay monthly.

What really screwed me, though, was Staples. I had ordered a Nintendo Switch 2 through them yesterday, and the order went through using the pay in 4. However, a half hour later, Staples canceled the order for reasons unknown to me. The email said they needed more information, but I don't know what that is supposed to mean. That not only ruined that deal, but I wasn't able to use pay in 4 the rest of the day yesterday, and the pending charge will linger in the account making it seem as though there is a loan there that does not exist for who knows how long.

Today, I was excited to see that the pay in 4 option was back, so I tried ordering the Switch elsewhere, but during checkout I decided to change credit cards because one of my cards offers extended warranties. This pay in 4 was denied because, I guess, switching which credit card would take the payments made me sus all of a sudden despite both cards having been in my paypal account forever and their system allowing the option to switch. Now, who knows if I'll be able to use this again. If Staples had not canceled my order, life would be great. Now, I'm deeply irritated that I likely won't be able to get a decent deal on the Switch 2.

I had immediately paid off the monthly plan and the two pay in 4s that I had previously used, but I can't use the monthly plan anymore because I was denied on a second try due to having one already open, despite, again, it being paid off, and now I've been denied on the pay in 4 because I switched credit cards during the process. I have excellent credit and no balances on Paypal, but I guess I'm still a bum. No idea if either option will open up for me again before this deal has run its course, but for now I get to wallow in both my extreme irritation at Staples and my annoyance at myself for having the stupidity to switch cards mid transaction even though that shouldn't have been a problem.

I figure if Paypal is shown as an option on check out, it will probably work. And if you click it, and "Pay in 4" (and/or monthly) appears as an option rather than just CC, bank, and/or Paypal credit, and you select it the "pay in 4" or "monthly", and it completes without error or immediate cancellation, you should be good as long as your purchase meets the terms.
If I chose to pay monthly, I am getting this clause: You allow PayPal and WebBank to contact you by autodialer or text about your application or loan. I do not know who WebBank is and don't necesserily want any third party to be in the mix

Question, if I use pay monthly option and then pay off immediately, do I still need to pay any interest charges? Little confused on how this works. My pay in 4 disappeared after some errors about unusual activity so I'm kinda stuck

You probably won't be able to go wild. All 3 times I completed a purchase with Pay in 4, the option was no longer available to me until hours later, maybe a few hours, once over 12 hours, and it wasn't related to going into the next day past midnight, either.

Odd that they canceled your order. As a data point for you. I ordered a switch 2 from staples last night and they didn't cancel overnight. I was able cancel it not too long ago since I didn't get as much cb from somewhere as I expected. I will probably go the Best Buy route since they have the Mario kart bundle and staples doesn't for delivery.

For those who couldn't get pay-in-4 to re-appear, try clear browser's history-and-website -data or catch. This works for me.

I never completed a monthly, but I seem to recall there was some other qualification it had to do and that it would charge interest, but I had aborted and never used it in the end, just the 3 times using Pay in 4.

2 questions (TIA for answering):
  1. Can I pay for something on Ebay (Pay in 4 is not available but Paypal credit is)
  2. Given a clause below is there any way to avoid hard credit pull when applying for this?

    PayPal Credit
Buy now and pay over time.
Apply today with no impact to your credit score if declined. If approved, you can shop with PayPal Credit anywhere PayPal is accepted.
An approved PayPal Credit application will result in a hard credit inquiry, which may impact your credit score. Subject to credit approval.
Select PayPal Credit and then go thru the process of applying for credit with PalPal. You will have to unfreeze your credit report with TransUnion before it will be approved. Once you are approved, you can then select Pay in 4.

Tried that. Also tried a completely different browser and clear all history, cookies, cache completely . Makes no difference. They are handling this based on your Paypal account, so they don't need to use cookies or such. Paypal support said it just takes time and to wait it out, and that's what has worked each time for me so far.

One caveat - mine isn't showing after having back to back cancellations including getting the "ususual activity" message in my Paypal account, so I don't know how pertinent that is vs. it disappearing simply due to successful use, but I was able to use it a day later the last time I got the unusual activity message.

I assume this requires giving Paypal your SSN?

I'm assuming Staples' system is not consistent and that I just randomly got unlucky. Unfortunately, that bad luck really hosed me.
