Avoid Aliexpress via Paypal. All, yes ALL, transactions are being processed by Paypal as cash advance! Resulting in Credit Card Issuer inflicting a cash advance transaction fee + accrual of daily interest as high as 28% APR! No way to resolve and all three companies (CC, AE & Paypal) will circle jerk the finger pointing of who is responsible with no solution. Reddit is exploding with many customers getting hit with these fees in the tune of 10's and even 100's of dollars. Avoid!!!

Paying the balance early in Pay Monthly won't violate the terms.

Remove your PayPal account from eBay payment first. Now after making a purchase, it will redirect you to PayPal, pick 'pay in 4' from there.

Did you save the offer in Reward tab first?
Yes. The purchase was recorded as two transactions of equal amounts (I assume because there were two airline tickets purchased for two individuals) and one of those transactions accurately reflects the 20% in points assigned to it.

First pay in 4 wouldn't show at checkout after a few small amount purchases $420 in total, then 2 days later it reappears but denied me for numbers of active plans, paid off all early and still got the same denial reason, probably the worst shopping experience ever with a financial institution.

If you do the monthly. Is there a grace period? Or basically when does the interest start?

On samsung website i saw Pay later pay in 4 but the purchase is more than $1500 so that option was not allowed since it is on eligible purhcases of $30-$1500

Has anyone used this to buy flights successfully? The United website appears to support Pay in 4 so presumably it should work

Yes, I did this. However, I purchased two tickets in one transaction, and for some reason, Paypal has only recorded cashback points for one of the tickets (half the transaction). Trying to figure out how to get this fixed. But in short - yes, this works for United.

I used it successfully on a few transactions but after trying again when it was available I got an error and this email .. any ideas why?

We regret that we are unable to approve your request at this time for the following reason:

Application information tied to unusual activity.
Thank you for your interest in PayPal Pay in 4.

I did the same thing last week and had the same results as you. I believe that someone earlier in the thread mentioned that there's a problem with transactions of the same amount. In this case, it appeared to apply the bonus to the first ticket but not the second.

Another couple of data points:
  • I tried buying plane tickets in a foreign currency and I got absolutely no pending points for those.
  • I've also tried purchasing gift cards at target. While other people appear to have had success with this, I also got no pending points for those either.

Interesting. I sent a message to Paypal support and awaiting a response. Hopefully it's fixed quickly.

The issue isn't checking out with the offer or getting Paypal to show you the rewards pending in your account. The issue is actually receiving those rewards and not having them reversed, which is something no one is likely to know for up to 90 days.
