11/26/2025 10:28am PST Update: This is now limited to ONE transaction, with 20% rewards back up to $1,250. Paypal email memo notes that the promotion for spend on multiple transactions prior to the notification will be honored.
Walmart:
1) you have to make sure Paypal is not a saved method of payment in your wallet. If so, go into your account and remove it
2) When you are in checkout, uncheck the box that says Remember Paypal as a payment option.

Even though he was confident, I called back and solicited yet another rep's thoughts. They transferred me to the approrpriate department and Jane echoed what Martin had said. It's a transactional limit, not a total spend cap. She said the cap for total transactions is $5,000.
FWIW, I also ran it through Perplexity (yet another LLM that you may or may not have tried) and it also spit out that same result -- $1,250 cap of getting the full 20% per transaction; aggregate cap is $5,000.

New terms do say one purchase but it seems like they upped it to $20 million (2 billion points from 1.5 billion before) to last longer.
