Avoid Aliexpress via Paypal. All, yes ALL, transactions are being processed by Paypal as cash advance! Resulting in Credit Card Issuer inflicting a cash advance transaction fee + accrual of daily interest as high as 28% APR! No way to resolve and all three companies (CC, AE & Paypal) will circle jerk the finger pointing of who is responsible with no solution. Reddit is exploding with many customers getting hit with these fees in the tune of 10's and even 100's of dollars. Avoid!!!

Paying the balance early in Pay Monthly won't violate the terms.

Remove your PayPal account from eBay payment first. Now after making a purchase, it will redirect you to PayPal, pick 'pay in 4' from there.

So they upped the program limit to 2B

I say they had a higher (or faster) than anticipated response to the offer.

While the 20% promo was shortened by almost a week, the overall promotion was shortened considerably.

To save a little face, they increased the points pool by 33% and nipped any over-achievers from draining the pool. This also caused the collateral damage to anyone who might have only benefited from a small purchase whereby the have been limited out.

It was known from the start that PayPal itself was the sole rule maker of the offer as clearly stated in their original terms

Interestingly even though the email was very clear about me no longer being eligible for the offer it still showed in my offers. I was able to make one last purchase for the full 20%, now it's showing as completed.

I missed out. I bought a couple things from Best Buy and was going to get a set of tires to max out the cash back. As I understand it's only good for one purchase now?

Hmm mine doesn't say completed but I did use it last night for a small purchase, which was a bummer since if I had known I would have waited and used it for a bigger purchase, I don't know if it's worth the risk to try and buy something today, since I got the email everyone else did
Mine doesnt show completed neither even though I received the email. Maybe theres a chance they are still honoring todays purchases.

So they didn't just "clarify" the promo, they actually "changed" the promo.
Yes, they sent out an email:

so the change is just meant to punish us for calling? lol
Boomer is so delusional about calling up to ask a question will ruin the promotion. People abusing the offer and what they are seeing in the transactions are what changed the terms.

Someone mentioned the 5% being gone from the terms. That is true, although it still shows in the offer screen, but that still shows per transaction as well, so maybe 5% is truly gone also. Hmmm Damn PayPal. lol

With all the problems with the Pay Later disappearing for people, I bet they were getting quite a few calls. lol I just waited it out, and the timing kinda sucked for me, but at least I got in one decent purchase before they closed the curtain.

Hmm, the email said I've used it up, but the rewards page still shows saved not completed. Not sure if I should risk it or not.

So what changes to the terms were meant to limit the abuse?

Making 3 or 4 purchases to reach $1250 was not abuse. Now you can't do that.

Don't be naive, the goal for the change was to put the kibosh on the promo. Yes it will end a lot of abuse but it will also end the effectiveness of the program.

This change destroys the offer and only a fool would think this sweeping change is meant solely for the abuse.

If you want to stop abuse only, change to terms to say "You can only get $250 and not a penny more." That way everybody can reach $250 but now, *no one* going forward will be able to hit that number exactly.
Limited to one Eligible Purchase per customer, up to a total of $1,250 in spend

The primary change was to limit the number of purchases to *1 per customer*. The issue was that many individuals made *multiple* separate purchases, each up to $1250 ($250 back in points) which previously qualified, easily blasting past the new 1 time limit.

If this would have happened just ONE day later, I would have gotten in a couple more transactions today. I was already deciding on my next "buy" when I got the email stating I've hit the limit. I couldn't try over the last few days because my Pay Later option didn't return until today.
