I wouldn't call it rare. But they are nice cards that are exclusive to this pack. A lot of promos in other sets are just rereleased with a slightly different holo pattern. These packs go for like $15 already, so good deal to get it free buying $20 worth of stuff with free shipping

I don't play, but why are all cards sold out online?

The Pikachu in a PSA10 currently lists around $200.

I want these.

My kids just getting into this, is there anything related to the cards themselves that this site has for sale? Don't think he wants a stuffed animal. Any other recommendations for what to buy to qualify for the free gift?

Is it even possible to get pokemon cards? They seem to be sold out everywhere, pokemon center or otherwise

I just picked up the Kanto Region sticker book and ate the shipping. My son is also beginning to collect so I figured he should be introduced to the original.

You can get the battle academy which is good if you want to play the game. No real collector value. Can also get sleeves, binders, or boxes

Best buy has just started an invite only system to try and beat the scalpers/resellers. Resellers are the ones cleaning out all the stock constantly. Probably your best chance to get some product without buying it from resellers at 2-3x the retail price.

The Pokemon TCG has become such a sad hobby. I played 10 years ago and there were ZERO issues buying product. You could preorder the booster boxes (36 packs) for $95. Now you have people lined up hours before a store open to buy stacks of products and the booster boxes go for triple what they did back then.

Sam's Club recently started selling some newer stuff, and people were posting pictures of their car passenger seat being stacked with products and bragging that there wasn't a limit per person.

Bad time for kids to get into pokemon. Mine were into it and then the whole artificial 'shortage' hit and made it impossible to purchase anything at retail prices. Everything went up 3-10x because everything was shipped to influencers and made available only to scalpers. I used to take my kids along with a few of their friends to the local card shop and they would all pick up something and rip packs at home. Haven't done that in well over a year now because nothing is available or for many of the card shops, they price their stuff much higher from the get go which prices most kids out.
If your kids are into actually playing the card game, I wouldn't bother with Pokemon.. it's one of the worst as a card game. It's mostly for collecting and showing off your full arts. Better card games are Magic, which is owned by the same company, but packs are more readily available and still has a decent player base. Or another I've gotten into recently is One Piece if you like the anime. Little hard to find One Piece packs, but I have a Bandai shop near me and they always have inventory and it's always below retail. They do get scalpers as well, but they limit them.. especially on some of the older sets they get more inventory of.

While I agree with pretty much everything you said, I offer one small correction. MTG is not owned by the same company. It is distributed by Wizards of the Coast, who DID distribute Pokemon cards but only until 2003. Pokemon cards are distributed directly by the Pokemon Company International (TPCI).
