Milwaukee's M18 track saw stands out as a cordless cutting system that feels close to a table saw for sheet goods and long cuts. It has strong runtime, with dozens of cuts on a 6.0Ah high output battery and even 3.0Ah batteries cutting without issue. The saw shares track compatibility with Makita and some third party rails, and the riving knife and single battery setup give it an edge over the Makita version. The main drawbacks are the two piece track seam, which can snag or leave a slight curve, and the need to sort out battery compatibility or adapters.

  • The deal can stack a military discount with no tax on ShopMyExchange, bringing the purchase to about $332 delivered.

  • The saw can run many cuts on common M18 batteries, including dozens of cuts on a 6.0Ah HO pack.

  • The track saw can be used with existing Makita batteries by using a suitable adapter.

  • Using a track system can replace a guide clamp workflow after switching from a corded guide-clamp setup.

  • The track comes in two pieces, and the seam can create snag or kink that slightly curves cut pieces.

  • The track can ship as separate items, which may require managing rail and saw delivery separately.

  • Track compatibility is limited by rail thickness, so Milwaukee and Makita tracks cannot be combined and some features like anti-tip may not work on compatible third-party brands.

  • The clearance around the handle may be tight when using a battery adapter, and the setup may need to be returned if it doesn't work.

Batteries are very easy to find on FB Marketplace. I often see 5AH for ~$60. That's what I use in this saw and it works just fine for 3/4" birch

Any way to do the hack just for the track ? I already have the saw.
Yes you can hack for just the track $110. Which was close to the original price before it went up to $150. Marketplace is a good option too, have seen brand new in my area for $100 pretty frequently

Someone just needs to release a track that is 100 inches long......and that is NOT in 2 separate pieces. I'm inclined to believe they make it this way for transportation and store shelf display purposes. People go to Home Depot and Menards to buy 8-ft long wooden pieces all the time and I never see them complaining. Having used several tracks, the 2-piece is super annoying - no matter how tight you get the screws, there's always a bit of snag/kink when you cross over that seam and after cutting a few pieces of wood and moving the track around, the screw ever so-slightly gets loose - so there's a slight curve to the cut-pieces where the 2 tracks meet (let's just say I messed up a ton of expensive wood while working on my wood slat project).

frankly i was going to ask the same question, need something for DIY at home that is safe and effective/easy to use.

trying to understand circular saw, track saw, etc. the advantage of just getting one.

not a professional by any means but something that can be used in variety of ways

was considering this as it seems a bit more user friendly with the track/etc

Is there any reason to hold out for a corded option for cutting through thicker hardwood? It's been awhile since I've looked into a track saw but felt like a couple years back that was still folks preference.

Seems like it's for more pro/looking work. I was considering it as a substitute for circsaw but it seems to be significantly bigger than circsaw (pics misled me a bit)

I've got both the Makita 36V and this Milwaukee M18. Both are great saws, similar in power. One battery design and having a riving knife gives the Milwaukee a slight edge. Still have both because I haven't wanted to sell one, nor buy Milwaukee tracks for the M18 - but they do share track compatibility.

There are multiple 100"+ one-piece tracks out there, but they're not cheap - $250-300+. Makita has a 118", Milwaukee has a 106" one, but it's all relatively thin aluminum (Milwaukee being the thickest), it'll dent and deform in transit long before an 8ft wood board would. Shrink (damage/loss) can be pretty significant on long/thin items like this.

100"+ isn't exactly easy to transport/move around in use & around the shop, either.

Not really. I've cut through near 2" maple with my Makita without fuss, and I've seen the M18 demonstrated similarly.. but haven't used it to cut any thick hardwood yet. Modern brushless motors are intense.

Probably need a pretty large capacity battery to run this for much more than 1 cut. Anyone have experience with this saw? Would this run very long on a 3Ah battery?

In the review video that i saw the guy got like 70 or more cuts on a 6 amp battery, it was 1/2 or 3/4 ply, 4ft cuts
..so it lasts quite a while

These actually will make dozens and dozens of cuts on a 6AH HO battery.
I've used the 3.0 AH HO battery with mine out of curiosity, but I ran out of cuts to make and I wasn't about to just waste wood. Cut without issue.

I picked this up during the sale a couple weeks ago. You're not wrong about the size; it's significantly larger than the M18 circ. However, it's a different beast. You can almost use it in place of a table saw... almost.
