"nylon coffee press"? - Not for me. Stainless steel only.

My main complaint with French Press brewing is that the coffee gets cold before you can drink it all.

Especially in an outdoor setting.

I do a lot of cold weather camping and always have a separate thermos ready to receive the brewed coffee. It's an extra piece of gear but works fine for car camping.

Imagine being Stanley, and manufacturing an excellent line of double walled stainless steel products known for excellent heat retention. You've decided to make a French press. Should you leverage your existing expertise and make a double walled steel press?

No, no, You've decided to make it out of nylon.

Stanley offers a full stainless double wall insulated French press, but you can't use that to actually boil the water in. Big surprise, but the vacuum insulation that keeps the coffee/brew hot, also prevents heat from a fire from boiling the water inside the container.

This is a 2 in 1 device, useful for both boiling water in the container, and also brewing coffee without needing a separate device.

Besides the flaw in your logic about boiling water in a double walled insulated vessel being anything near efficient, insulated French Presses tend to over-extract the coffee, leading to yucky bitterness. Given the size of this, I'd just pour into an insulated cup after steeping for 2-3 adults or use a thermos if it's just for 1.

If you're really worried about cold weather, boil water and use an Aeropress. You can top off your faux-espresso with more hot water and have yourself a faux-Americano placed right into your drinking cup of choice. Coffee will be way too hot to drink for quite a long time.

When I go camping, I typically just bring instant coffee now. Usually it's Illy, but I've done Starbucks, too. Comes in a small can. Can be mixed with hot or cold water, depending on the weather and how much time you have to make it. If you don't polish off the can, it's zero packaging waste. If you do, it's minimal waste to take home or leave at the park dumpster. Takes up the least amount of space and weight is negligible.

I agree with all of your comments, I don't see the flaw in my logic. I never said you should boil water in the insulated press. Absolutely not. You should boil water in a proper vessel for boiling water like a portable kettle. And then pour it into the press.

I made the SAME comment you did about why insulated presses are a bad idea in the slick deals thread for that product, a Stanley insulated press. Insulated presses shouldn't exist, unless you're doing cooler water, and serving immediately after steeping.
