This Hart 6 gallon stainless steel wet dry vac is best as a compact, budget shop vac for garage, basement, and car cleanup. The suction gets praised for dust, concrete bits, sawdust, drywall chunks, and even flood water, and the wheels make it easy to move around. It also works well with the car cleaning kit and can handle light indoor dusting with the right bag and filter. The main drawbacks are the short cord, narrow hose, and some reports of thin metal, fragile plastic tabs, or early motor failure. A practical pick if you want a small, versatile vac without stepping up to a full size unit.

Common Questions (6)

  • It is light enough for many people to carry and roll around on its wheels, though the steel canister is thin and the motor sits in the lid. It fits between a regular household vacuum and a larger shop vac, but the cord is short and may require an extension cord.

  • Some units have lasted for years with regular use, but others failed quickly from brush wear, burning smells, or thin metal damage. The canister and bottom are described as very thin, and plastic tabs can break easily, so it is best suited to occasional or light-duty use.

  • Yes, it can handle wet pickup well, including pooled rainwater, basement leaks, and even large flood cleanup jobs. One practical caveat is that the float/overflow ball can stick after emptying, so it may need time to dry before continuous reuse.

  • Yes. It has been used successfully for concrete bits, dust, sawdust, drywall chunks, coins, and even basement water pickup. The 80 CFM, 1-1/4" hose setup is strong for a compact vac, but it is not as powerful as larger 16-gallon units and can clog on bigger debris.

  • Yes, it works well for car detailing and general dust pickup, and the included attachments make it useful for cleaning interiors and hard-to-reach spots. It can also vacuum carpets in a pinch, but it is not a true carpet cleaner and does not replace a beater-bar vacuum for deep cleaning.

  • Yes, if you plan to use it indoors or for fine dust like drywall, the HEPA bag and air filter help trap very small particles. They slightly reduce suction, but they make cleanup cleaner and replacements are reportedly easy to find in Walmart stores.

How is it working for you? Is it worth the $30?
I have this exact vacuum but a few years older I've been using it for a few years and I'm very happy with it My only complaint is the cord is the stupid short, I bought a wider brushed floor attachment and I use it for the house I have no carpet.

Do people use this to deep clean old couch/ area rug furniture?
Will get dust and hairs but to really clean furniture or carpets you need an upholstery/carpet cleaner

My basement was leaking from a nasty flood we got. I used this one to suck up about 100 gallons of water up with. Worked great. Also great for pellet stove cleaning. It eventually died but if I didnt just buy a new one from harbor freight id buy 2 of these

Bought this last year for same price and it is pretty good. I also have a 12 gallon porter cable shop vac but the hart sucks way harder. I never use the porter cable anymore

I got the slightly bigger HART 8 Gallon 6 Peak HP Stainless Steel Wet/Dry Vacuum in 2022 for the same $30 Was useful when I had to clear my flooded basement. One issue I had was that that the ball that prevents it from overflow gets stuck for the next round after emptying out. Have to wait a bit for the chamber to dry out. That was really annoying preventing it from continuous use.

Apparently selling well as I just got an email saying delivery will be delayed

"Your recent order will arrive later than planned. We're sorry about the delay and are working hard to get everything to you."
It probably depends on the location where there might not be enough in stock.

Would this work okay for minor sawdust collection from miter saws, sanders, routers, etc? I know this isn't a real dust collector, but I'm also not a real woodworker. ;-)

heavy??

Its thin tin/aluminum-walled and plastic on top and bottom. I use it specifically because it is so light and versatile. Maybe we're using different products?
Its stainless steel, but yes its very thin and light. All the weight is in the lid motor.

Bought for $10 more, went to chat and asked for price match or a credit.

Price match denied.

Asked for a credit, which was approved. Thanked for being a valued part of the W+ family.

I was immediately emailed this: We're sorry: take $10 off your next eligible order over $15.
Adding this in case anyone else purchased it and now see that it's $10 less. Hths!

I have had this vac since Nov of 2023. I have used it extensively. Many times in basement to suck up water on the floor and to empty my water softener of water and salt. It is powerful enough to use as a leaf blower. I have read most of the negative reviews and have not had any of those problems. The only thing that puzzled me was it stopped sucking a couple of times. I realized that there is a "float" that shuts off the suction when the dry cloth bag gets clogged. It only happend when vacing up fine dust and debris. The bag needs to be 😀thoroughly shaken and brushed off. I paid $39.00 for it.
