This Hart 6 gallon stainless steel wet dry vac is best as a compact, budget shop vac for garage, basement, and car cleanup. The suction gets praised for dust, concrete bits, sawdust, drywall chunks, and even flood water, and the wheels make it easy to move around. It also works well with the car cleaning kit and can handle light indoor dusting with the right bag and filter. The main drawbacks are the short cord, narrow hose, and some reports of thin metal, fragile plastic tabs, or early motor failure. A practical pick if you want a small, versatile vac without stepping up to a full size unit.

Common Questions (6)

  • It is light enough for many people to carry and roll around on its wheels, though the steel canister is thin and the motor sits in the lid. It fits between a regular household vacuum and a larger shop vac, but the cord is short and may require an extension cord.

  • Some units have lasted for years with regular use, but others failed quickly from brush wear, burning smells, or thin metal damage. The canister and bottom are described as very thin, and plastic tabs can break easily, so it is best suited to occasional or light-duty use.

  • Yes, it can handle wet pickup well, including pooled rainwater, basement leaks, and even large flood cleanup jobs. One practical caveat is that the float/overflow ball can stick after emptying, so it may need time to dry before continuous reuse.

  • Yes. It has been used successfully for concrete bits, dust, sawdust, drywall chunks, coins, and even basement water pickup. The 80 CFM, 1-1/4" hose setup is strong for a compact vac, but it is not as powerful as larger 16-gallon units and can clog on bigger debris.

  • Yes, it works well for car detailing and general dust pickup, and the included attachments make it useful for cleaning interiors and hard-to-reach spots. It can also vacuum carpets in a pinch, but it is not a true carpet cleaner and does not replace a beater-bar vacuum for deep cleaning.

  • Yes, if you plan to use it indoors or for fine dust like drywall, the HEPA bag and air filter help trap very small particles. They slightly reduce suction, but they make cleanup cleaner and replacements are reportedly easy to find in Walmart stores.

I ordered one, and it was damaged during shipping. The metal canister is thin. It had a big dent in it. I ended up taking it back to my local Walmart and then getting the 16-gallon Ridgid for $60.

I had one for a year, blew a hole in the bottom of it a month ago sucking up a broken piece of tempered glass. The metal is paper thin, seals are plastic. I wouldn't pay $30 for one again and I've generally been a fan of Hart stuff.

I have had this version for a few years. I always use a hepa bag and a hepa air filter (slightly reduces suction power) but I don't have any noticeable issues. I've changed the bag 2 times over the years... and the one time it was changed only because I did a bathroom remodel on my master bath and had a lot of drywall dust and thinset dust everywhere. I use this model inside the house because it's on wheels and it is light... unless you're a super weakling. I can carry it up a ladder with one hand and standing on the ladder I can hold the vac in one hand and maneuver the hose with the other. I clean ceiling fan blades, lighting housing, on top of my kitchen cabinets, corners, behind areas my dyson can't reach, suck out dust from my computers cases, clean the dust off my digital pianos and guitars, clean the dust off of my candle lids, and many other uses. I recently threw a stanley 5 gal vac away because the hose end did not rotate... meaning if you were trying to use a brush attachment, you would have to loosen the attachment and rotate it to the direction you needed, then tighten it back up.. not to mention bags or filters were not available locally, not sold at my local walmart, Meijer, lowes, home depot, or menards. At least with this model, you can get the hard bags and filters from MOST walmart stores and since they have later hours, if you find yourself in a pickle, you can almost always get a replacement if you run out.

you can, but it is not ideal. It does come with the flat attachment but you need a vacuum with a beater bar (which 'thumps' dust up away from the floor and the suction will inhale it into your canister/bag)... but again, yes, you can vacuum your carpet.

I got mine recently and put it to a bit of a test yesterday. I am building a shelf in the garage. I had to pick up some dirt and leaves prior to my cuts, and then pick up the sawdust from my cuts. For $30, this thing is really good.

It's only 80 CFM and 1 and 1/4" diameter hose, so it's not going to be as powerful as for example the Ridgid 16 gallon which is 120 CFM and 2 and 1/2" diameter hose, but was fine for my purposes and pretty strong. The smaller hose was a bit limiting for larger pieces of wood because it did get clogged once near where the hose attaches to the shop vac so I had to disconnect it and clear it out. The size is very nice. It's pretty much like having a 5 gallon bucket on caster wheels vs the super large 16 gallon ones. The cord is pretty short though so you might need to use an extension cord at times.

Definitely worth it at $30.

Not really a good home carpet vacuum replacement.
