looks like the e42 is a newer model, i have a bunch s3s and they are great compared to the bullet style cameras. but, if you need continuous recording, don't want to deal with an app, or have reservations about privacy look elsewhere. personally i run these in areas without privacy issues, with good wifi, and use the app without issues. at this point i'm nearly a year in the chicago area and the battery is still at 100%. that being said the usefulness of the solar system depends on positioning, but they do have some nice flexibility of running a cable.
Not sure what the previous poster's reason was but here's mine.
I use Eufy's cameras indoors where they are wired up. I tried using these outdoors where I cannot run a wire and the battery dipped down a lot overnight compared to the TP-Link Tapo that charges up even when it is overcast.
is that a standalone system or you have to have subscription to use full capabilities?
No subscription required. The homebase does things like Pet/Human detection and stores your recordings. If you want your videos in the cloud I think they have a subscription for that -but I think you get all the features without it.
I switched from a Ring doorbell a year ago and really like the Eufy. I can see my recordings, get notifications, and it recognizes family members which is really nice.

I had a ring and it did nothing without subscription. Just live view

Why???
Seems EUFY has a great app, and an equally nice doorbell.

Inconvenient to have two apps though
