I just redeemed the personal 12-month into my current family subscription and it prorated into 9 months.
It offered to give me a free extra month for enabling recurring billing but it kept failing when I attempted to do so. It worked if I skipped that.
Previously when redeeming these offers I was able to claim that free month (and then immediately turned off recurring billing).

Yeah. Amazon is annoying like that. I had started out there but recently let it expire and then used a code from one of these deals to reactivate my family plan. This seems like a better rate converted to family than I've seen recently for actual family plan deals. Recent family plan deals have been at around $52 for 9 months.

I'm a little confused. Did you keep it as Family so it gave you less time? Or did you switch from family to personal but still lose 3 months? I have a family plan expiring next month and am trying to find a good solution.

It stayed as family it wouldn't make sense to turn into a personal with less time

Confirming I was able to redeem this on top of an existing M365 Family subscription, extending it for 9 months. So it's almost 1/2 the price of buying Family ($46 vs $87-90, depending on the combo), but receives 3/4 of the time. For me, NordVPN is just a bonus, so I paid $46 for 9 months of M365 Family ($5.11/mo). If you wanted to buy NordVPN anyway, then the Microsoft portion is even cheaper.
Heads up that if you do this, it'll give you false hope while redeeming that you'll get the full 12 months (or even 15 months for turning on auto-renew), but then will say "just kidding, here's 9 months" at the very end.
If we see even better deals in the coming week, I'll do it again.
