I was told limit 5 gift cards per transaction in Apple Store. I was so sad.

There is a limit of $2000 balance on your apple account. If you add all your gift cards to your apple account then you should be able to buy anything in the store.

I bought 12 cards to buy an iPhone at Apple Store this morning. Unfortunately the codes from 5 of the cards got partially damaged and unreadable. Those cards looked completely normally from the outside. When I called Apple support and they verified those codes have been redeemed and there is nothing that they can do. I will try to go to target and see if anything that they can help but most likely I just lost $500.

Just got 6 more from the same target store, for a total of 20 physical cards. I had a problem with damaged cards in the past, but feel lucky this time all 20 cards redeemed just fine. Note: when scanning, there is a barcode to scan first, then you are prompted to peel off the tab to scan the activation code. After you pull the tab off, there are now two barcodes. If the scan machine reads the first barcode again, you'll get an error that the card isn't valid. If covered the first one with my thumb to scan the activation code, it worked great. Or you can use the scan gun to be more precise.

Same thing here and target told me to talk to Apple because there's nothing they can do.
