Agree. Electronics, electrical and mechanical items have consistently broken down within a few uses, most people wouldn't notice before the return window. Last bought an Apple Watch and right after the "warranty" window (which was like 3 months I think) the battery stopped holding even an hour's worth of charge.

no warranty from apple ? did you check if you can purchase applecare after your purchase ?
Gotta really search for deals. Just an example they have the Nex Playground new for $199. The used Like New is 240. Prices are inflated to give you that "30% off"

It's annoying that they yanked this discount from the Apple MacBooks
I think they slap that 30% on everything and the revoke anything that shows high interest. It's a good mechanism to self sort what in their inventory. Best buy also does this and raised open box prices on MacBooks by $100.
