Ive been looking at these 2025 model Grams for awhile, but just took advantage of the Samsung Book5 Pro 16 deal that was posted last night.

If you choose to go up to the Pro models, you get a better brighter display that can do variable refresh from 30-144hz, better speakers, and in the 17" model you get a rtx 5050 and the higher power 285H cpu. This is a big tradeoff in battery life due to the higher spec components though. If you like the 258V/288V power sipping lunar lake cpus, you can get that in the 16 pro and It'll run just like this but you do get a huge battery in this 17" model. I was considering the gram pro 16 but they havent gone below $1,495 with coupon on their partner site so far. Theres a posting for the 17" Pro model here on slickdeals if you want that, and I was sent a 15% off coupon that I shared in that thread to drop the price to $1500 shipped for one poster. It has limited uses though, so good luck. Hope this helps, its a good laptop for sure, but wanted to assist the community in comparing the models.

I have an earlier generation of the Gram 17. Great laptop. Super light, massive screen, fast, great battery life.

For those of you that have access to LG's partner store, this is the same price but has a 10% off coupon for another $100 off with code "EXTRA10".

One of the posts mentioned a very similar machine from Costco. That one has a $15 delivery charge,
even if shipping to warehouse.
The Costco version is $1,249.99. Which I believe is identical to this one, except it has a 2TB drive instead of a 1TB drive.

Also, can't use the 20% off PayPal pay in 4 deal at Costco.

So it appears that Best Buy is a better deal than Costco in this particular instance.

If I use PayPal checkout at Best buy and chose "Pay in 4" - 20% cashback discount shows up after 90 days of purchase under Papal Rewards?

There is a gigantic thread about the Pay in 4 on Slick Deals. Take a look here:

https://slickdeals.net/f/18824500-select-paypal-accounts-pay-later-with-paypal-get-20-cash-back?src=...

I believe you get the 20% cashback when you finish paying off the amount your "borrowed" from the Pay in 4. So if you let it run it's course, and have it charge over time for the 4 payments, it takes that long to get it, because it takes that long to pay it off. But if you go in and manually pay it all off in full immediately after the first quarter payment goes through, I think you get the rewards almost immediately (like in a day or two). Because some people are paying it off right away, then they get the points and another reward offer for 20% after a couple days, and rinse and repeat. And the do the pay in 4 multiple times, every few days.

I have this. Love it except for the keyboard, which has very small keys.

Yes, I realize the price delta. However, the Costco deal has a 2yr warranty vs. one, 90 days return, Also, the Costco deal has 2X1TB storage vs. 1. This is important for me - storing a lot of pictures that I need to access any time.
Won't use PayPal deal anyway.

But thanks for your input nevertheless.

Nope.

Smaller hard drive (512GB instead of 1TB)
Lower resolution screen (1920x1080 instead of 2560x1600)
Only one Thunderbolt (instead of two)
WiFi 6 (instead of WiFi7)
5.4 pounds (instead of 3.2)

You could also get the Best Buy version, and drop in another 1TB drive in the second slot for about $70, which would bump it up to 2TB. And use a credit card that gives an extra year of warranty beyond the original one year manufacturer's warranty.

But yes, I get it, I'm a huge Costco fan and usually buy electronics there for the reason you mention. Had a Dell all-in-one recently go dead after 23 months (like 3 weeks short of the 2 years). Called Costco Concierge service, they sent me a box to mail it in, got it fully rebuilt with new touchscreen and everything shipped back.

Costco's Visa does NOT extend the manufacturer's warranty any longer, and hasn't done for some time. AMEX, most Mastercards, Alaska Visa, and many other Visa cards all add an additional year to the original warranty. Many of these cards are also CB or points back. Bank of America cards also give bonus points or additional CB for Premium customers. There may be other good cards to use, too, including Chase Sapphire and Reserve.

Buy a laptop at Costco, with a Costco Visa. Get 2 years warranty.

Buy a laptop at Best Buy, with a Costco Visa. No extended warranty.

Makes good business sense from Costco's perspective.

How is the screen clarity? 17 inches at this resolution seems like it would make things a bit fuzzy

Samsung Book5 Pro 16 has a smaller screen, but is a heavier machine at 4.10 lbs. These two laptops are targeting different market segments.

Well, 3.72lbs, so about a pound extra. But yeah, that makes sense. I just got it in the mail and it's fantastic. The weight of the gram was more of a nice to have for me, I liked the extra key travel and IPS display for business use, but I can do with what the Book5 has since it saves me $500.

Why RAM is soldered? I don't want SOLDERED RAM! Soldered RAM should be OUTLAWED!
