Ive been looking at these 2025 model Grams for awhile, but just took advantage of the Samsung Book5 Pro 16 deal that was posted last night.

If you choose to go up to the Pro models, you get a better brighter display that can do variable refresh from 30-144hz, better speakers, and in the 17" model you get a rtx 5050 and the higher power 285H cpu. This is a big tradeoff in battery life due to the higher spec components though. If you like the 258V/288V power sipping lunar lake cpus, you can get that in the 16 pro and It'll run just like this but you do get a huge battery in this 17" model. I was considering the gram pro 16 but they havent gone below $1,495 with coupon on their partner site so far. Theres a posting for the 17" Pro model here on slickdeals if you want that, and I was sent a 15% off coupon that I shared in that thread to drop the price to $1500 shipped for one poster. It has limited uses though, so good luck. Hope this helps, its a good laptop for sure, but wanted to assist the community in comparing the models.

I have an earlier generation of the Gram 17. Great laptop. Super light, massive screen, fast, great battery life.

For those of you that have access to LG's partner store, this is the same price but has a 10% off coupon for another $100 off with code "EXTRA10".

The new generation Gram laptops are built much more cheaply than the older ones. I bought one about a year ago, and heat pipe broke off and stopped cooling the processor. It took me about a week to figure out why the machine ran terribly, and the cpu was always at 100% (thermal throttling).

They aren't built like they used to be. But they are just as expensive as ever. Replacement parts are expensive, too.
Uh I have a 2022 Gram and I'm wondering if this is what happened to me, because for the last few months this thing gets hot as hell and runs at like 1/10th the max clock speed of the processor.

But googling around it seems like it's a known issue due to cheap thermal paste and tape inside. So not sure the old ones were built that well either. Mine runs like dog.

You could also get the Best Buy version, and drop in another 1TB drive in the second slot for about $70, which would bump it up to 2TB. And use a credit card that gives an extra year of warranty beyond the original one year manufacturer's warranty.

But yes, I get it, I'm a huge Costco fan and usually buy electronics there for the reason you mention. Had a Dell all-in-one recently go dead after 23 months (like 3 weeks short of the 2 years). Called Costco Concierge service, they sent me a box to mail it in, got it fully rebuilt with new touchscreen and everything shipped back.
Thanks for the thoughtful and detailed response.

Re Costco : I read a story where someone returned a couch to Costco after 2 years of use, saying she no longer liked the couch. She got her money back. Talk about taking advantage of Costco's policy !

I used a CC that extends the warranty beyond the 2 years of Costco warranty. That is important to me: the machine is a present to someone in Europe. If a problem arises it may be months before one of us is traveling anyway and can bring it back to this country.

Also, I do not want to deal with adding a SSD, or other complications. Life is too short. Time is more precious than saving a few bucks. Yes, I love slick deals, but not if it takes away my time. Only 24 hrs. in a day.

That one's 1080p plus lesser specs almost all around. By the time you customize it the price is more than the LG and you'd still end up with a lesser machine. 🤷

Samsung Book5 Pro 16 has a smaller screen, but is a heavier machine at 4.10 lbs. These two laptops are targeting different market segments.
Yes and the Samasung OLED screens are known to break very easily

I bought and got it a couple days ago. I love how light this laptop is.. also screen is not too shabby sitting next to my Samsung 49 inch OLED. Run dead silent on battery for hours.

Been using mine a couple days now. So far it's great.

Ordered a laptop sleeve for it on Amazon, because to big to fit in any of my existing laptop cases. Also, bought an Anker USB C Hub that has Ethernet port. I have 1GB fiber, and the WiFi was giving me about 500Mbps download, the Ethernet gives me about 700Mbs download, so nice little bump.

Now looking around for a Black Friday deal on a SSD to drop in the second slot.

Also, did the 20% back PayPal pay in 4. Which now seems to be dead.

Probably overkill for my needs but I'm looking for a new laptop for DAW/Neural DSP work. With 32GB and a large screen, this seems like a good deal. Any other musicians out there want to chime in?

I used Reaper & some VSTs (before I got neural dsp stuff but whatever) and it worked pretty well on my 2021 gram 17 with an i7-1195g7. And I'm on Linux so even with the plugins going through Wine I was impressed it was fine for realtime guitar. However dealing with the compatibility through Linux was a little annoying so I switched to my windows desktop for guitar, but I've thought about switching back just for the convenience of having my setup be portable. Anyway I think you'll be just fine with this.

Hey I appreciate the reply. Yeah, I have a Linux box, but as you well know, we have challenges sometimes so I wanted to stick with Windows and definitely want the portability. Thank you!

I have a Gram. Like it except the RAM is soldered to the MB. Why??? I cannot upgrade beyond the stock 16GB.
That's 90% of all new laptops unfortunately

It says in the Owners Manual:
"The internal battery cannot arbitrarily be replaced or removed." Removing it may void the warranty.
It also says,CAUTION " Do not use any other power adapter than the one that was provided with the PC. CAUTION: Do not use the power cable for other purposes but power supply. Is this a joke?
There's no way this could be true right? Is this a throw away $1,100 Laptop after a couple of years?
