Picked one up yesterday, good deal especially considering carbon fiber shaft, battery, and full expand-it base system.

Same, got the 18V one for $50, tool only. Purchased this one yesterday, and will return the 18V one.

Both have lots of reviews complaining about how impossible it is to get the little cord holding unit off to clear a feed problem, basically rendering it useless. Anyone have experience with either?

I don't know what people are saying. It's easy. If you're handy at all you shouldn't have an issue.

Trimmer is good. Head on it sucks. Put an Echo SpeedFeed head on it just not the 500 which is the one that gets hot and melts.

I've had a 40v ryobi trimmer for about 3 years.
The line feed will not work anymore for some reason.

Stopped working at about year 2

I bought some extra heavy duty line after the feed problem started.

I rarely need to feed the line now
When I do , I stop and manually pop the head and pull some line

Not fun but that extra heavy duty line has saved me.

I might buy this replacement.

Any hints on where you found in the store?

Awesome deal, way below employee cost or what you can get it at DTO.

Found it on the shelf next to all the others, just with a yellow sticker. Mine was in a cage, so had to get them to unlock.

Thanks OP - I was headed there to get a battery and came home with a carbon fiber trimmer too!

Of course it's not available at the nearest store from me and 10 plus at 2 stores further out… I have the 40v mower so I am matching the battery system. Right now I am not trimming my grass which is an eyesore. It's really time to get one of these!

I have this unit but I'm not a fan of bump-feeding the line out of fear of cracking the carbon fiber shaft. What I do if I need more line is to push in and turn the bump knob counter-clockwise until I have enough line, it only takes a few seconds.

Awesome just picked it up! The 15" is also in clearance $159. They make it confusing so make sure you get the right one.

Thanks OP. I was able to get this and the 9" edger for $130 that was also clearances at my store! There's was a blower for $200 but that didn't seem like a deal. All the tools are caged up in my store so just look around d for that yellow tag.

Around the south bay in SF Bay area, the website says there's a dozen of more of these on clearance at every store around me. Of course at the store I bought mine, I only saw one or two units in the cage.

I tried it out this morning, and it's powerful. I couldn't figure out how to open up the cord head even when brand-new, either it's completely stuck out of the box or I'll try deciphering the instructions later today.
