I got the microcenter deal on this and returned it. Loved the UI and wired speed but the wifi range was very poor compared to my asus ax11000 pro. I am in a 2200sqft home and where was was getting 600mps on my Asus I was getting roughly 150 on the UD7.

This is an actual well known brand and highly regarded. Typically small businesses and up but people still buy it for home use . Warranty and support is enterprise level. Unifi is scalable and has an ecosystem all managed on an awesome software platform

For ubiquiti, it's a cheap entry point into a do (nearly) everything starter - supports most of their apps, so you can grow into their ecosystem a little bit before needing to do any significant additional upgrades. Maybe only a managed switch if they have additional runs to plug in.

But if you think you'll want more/higher quality ui cameras than what it can support, then you'd have to look at splitting the gateway and access point(s)

Ubiquiti is very much like Apple - they have an ecosystem that plays nice with each other, so you can manage everything from the same place, versus having to manage each part of your network individually. You do pay up front for that convenience though.

good price for this. but the rest of their black friday sale is disappointing.
I had been waiting for the gateway Max/fiber, so I'm actually happy with the sale.
U6+ AP's are alright too

I don't understand Ubiquiti's router / gateway products.

Is this better than the cheaper Cloud Gateway Max?

I have a couple of UniFi APs and small switches in my network that I run from a UniFi controller app. No plans to add UniFi cameras. Would I be able to ditch the app if I have this router?

Would getting the UNVR be enough to handle the cameras without needing to split the gateway? Considering getting the NVR and contemplating between getting this or the gateway max with a $99 access point.

UDR7 compared to cloud gateway Max:
-Includes a Wi-Fi 7 AP and 1 PoE port
-Has a slightly lower processor, supports fewer connections, fewer hd/4k cameras
-Uses micro SD for storage, versus m2 SSD in the Max

Just ordered one and got 20% cash back with PayPal. I had ordered one from Newegg with the $20 off promo code yesterday, but this is a significantly better deal. The nearly $50 in cash back puts this deal at around $190.

I can't speak to the UNVR piece, but I went with basically what you're saying. Bought the Max with storage, two U6+ AP's, and an 8 port PoE switch (lite, not the BlackFriday one)
I plan on adding a doorbell and cameras down the line, so I needed the storage and the higher camera support of the max 👍

Did you ensure that the Wi-Fi had the same bandwidth selected? Ubiquiti normally starts fairly conservative, 2.4ghz @ 20mhz and 5ghz @ 40mhz for less interference and a little better range.

https://store.ui.com/us/en/products/ucg-fiber is better if you already have AP's. The cloud gateway max is good to. If you don't have a lot of cameras.

gotta big house 5000sqft looking to replace aging orbi mesh system
would this and a couple of inwall APs work?

https://store.ui.com/us/en/catego...ucts/u7-iw

House has multiple cat5e drops on each floor.
Or should I just go w a newer Orbi /TP link mesh system. Thanks for advice !

The Unifi methodology is 'more, better placed' in contrast to the Asus 'more radio power'. This is designed to cover 1500 sq feet, at which point you would want to add an AP (preferably wired) at the opposite end of the building to build out coverage. This works better at scale because while your speed test on one device is a good metric, it's rare that one device is truly the only thing that needs bandwidth. As soon as you have multiple devices in use, the secondary AP doubles your available bandwidth instead of everyone sharing just one AP.

This or Flint 3 I just ordered for $152?????? I don't understand the hype behind this brand. I just want a reliable and fast router that covers my 4 bedroom home, I don't live a sprawling mansion either but do have 4 TVs now and many laptops and Ring cameras.....
