The UniFi Dream Router 7 is a compact all in one gateway that stands out for easy management, Wi Fi 7, and a built in PoE port, making it a strong entry into the UniFi ecosystem. It is praised for stable wired performance, simple VPN access, and room to grow with access points, cameras, and other UniFi gear without a subscription. Coverage is solid for smaller to mid sized homes, but range can trail stronger Asus or mesh setups, and larger homes may need extra wired access points. It also has a learning curve and limited camera capacity, so it fits best when you want UniFi control in a modest setup.

Been looking at Unifi for a while now. Looks like I'm going to dip my feet into their ecosystem. At this price it's a no brainer.
I swapped out my Wifi 5 Orbi's for this and never looked back. It's a bit more complex to set-up due to the enterprise leanings, but it's worth it. Very stable, fast, and reliable.

You don't need to, will work fine. It's better to IP pass through but honestly you might not notice even if you don't do it
But, isn't it create issues with SSID?
Also in that case this will act like AP and wouldn't be able to take advantage of all the features isn't it?

I have the original dream router and I have never looked back after years of Linksys, ASUS and Netgear products. This is a great price and I wish I needed the upgrade.

Do you get 2 dream 7's to make a mesh system? or what's recommended? I don't have any wires in the house and just trying to figure out an upgrade from an orbi system (rbk50 router + 1 satellite). Honestly don't want to spent alot of time configuring it for stuff I won't use/don't care about. Would I better off getting another orbi?

Depends... without knowing your use case, current internet speeds, and future plans for any of it, who can say? This unit is an absolute upgrade over the OG, but if you never plan on doing things like going over a gig, only run a handful of devices, are happy with wifi 5, and rarely if ever log into the dashboard, etc., etc., then it's up to you if dropping 229 on this is something you want to do.

You just add one of their access points. You have to temporarily plug it in to the UDR-7 (use the POE port on the UDR for this) and configure it to use mesh with the UDR-7. Once you save the config, unplug the access point and move it to where you want it to live. Since you aren't running wires, you'll need to power the access point using a POE injector in the "Main" network port on the access point. Within a couple of minutes or so it will connect with the UDR-7 and configure itself for mesh operation.

Hoping for some feedback... Currently have a TP Link Archer AXE5400 and it's been mostly solid in my ~2400 sq ft, 2 story house. I currently have 1gb ISP and don't anticipate it increasing anytime soon, but I have several smart devices and their hubs, an unRAID Plex server with arrs setup and some other little homelab type stuff. I have some Adguard DNS filtering setup on the server and use it as a Tailscale exit node to remote in when I'm away.

I have Ethernet ran to a couple of rooms nearby my router but nowhere that I could use a wired AP. I'm interested in getting into a little more granular control over my network (setting up VLANs, firewalls, etc) but the Archer just isn't made for that. Think it's worth going Ubiquiti and exploring that stuff for my setup?

This video will show you how to setup VLAN's, IoT, and other stuff on Unifi gear: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=evvx-fPC3KU

Hmm....currently have UCG max. I wonder if I should flip that on FB and pick up this for another access point or if I should just buy another U7Pro.

Nice, I almost returning micro center UDR-7 and AP bundle because I don't have ethernet wired. What would be a good POE injector (how much watt) for U7 Pro? can i also mesh with other brand wireless extender/router? thanks!

You'll need to visit the page for the AP that you have, on their website. Scroll down just a bit and click the "Technical" link. In the Hardware section of that page it will list the requirements. For example, I took a quick look at the spec for the U6+ and it shows:

Max. Power Consumption 9W
Supported Voltage Range: 44—57V DC

I used the Pay in 4 discount at Ubiquiti and it is showing the points pending on Paypal. Do you know if I can just pay it off now because the points seem to be adding soon or do I need to make all four payments to keep the points? thanks

I have a U6 Pro Access point and just bought a Ubiquiti UniFi Dream Router 7. Has anyone had issues meshing these (signal issues etc.,)? They will be about 50 feet apart. Also, Is it best to have the Ubiquiti UniFi Dream Router 7 as high as possible or can you just put it anywhere in the house and it will have a decent signal?
Thanks!
