But if you think you'll want more/higher quality ui cameras than what it can support, then you'd have to look at splitting the gateway and access point(s)
Ubiquiti is very much like Apple - they have an ecosystem that plays nice with each other, so you can manage everything from the same place, versus having to manage each part of your network individually. You do pay up front for that convenience though.
Community Reviews
The UniFi Dream Router 7 is a compact all in one gateway that stands out for easy management, Wi Fi 7, and a built in PoE port, making it a strong entry into the UniFi ecosystem. It is praised for stable wired performance, simple VPN access, and room to grow with access points, cameras, and other UniFi gear without a subscription. Coverage is solid for smaller to mid sized homes, but range can trail stronger Asus or mesh setups, and larger homes may need extra wired access points. It also has a learning curve and limited camera capacity, so it fits best when you want UniFi control in a modest setup.

Also in that case this will act like AP and wouldn't be able to take advantage of all the features isn't it?

I have Ethernet ran to a couple of rooms nearby my router but nowhere that I could use a wired AP. I'm interested in getting into a little more granular control over my network (setting up VLANs, firewalls, etc) but the Archer just isn't made for that. Think it's worth going Ubiquiti and exploring that stuff for my setup?

You just add one of their access points. You have to temporarily plug it in to the UDR-7 (use the POE port on the UDR for this) and configure it to use mesh with the UDR-7. Once you save the config, unplug the access point and move it to where you want it to live. Since you aren't running wires, you'll need to power the access point using a POE injector in the "Main" network port on the access point. Within a couple of minutes or so it will connect with the UDR-7 and configure itself for mesh operation.
Wondering if i should i just set it up or if this is better. Right now have Asus running things which is fine too, it's a matter of bought items , outside return window and now need to put it to use.
