The UniFi Dream Router 7 is a compact all in one gateway that stands out for easy management, Wi Fi 7, and a built in PoE port, making it a strong entry into the UniFi ecosystem. It is praised for stable wired performance, simple VPN access, and room to grow with access points, cameras, and other UniFi gear without a subscription. Coverage is solid for smaller to mid sized homes, but range can trail stronger Asus or mesh setups, and larger homes may need extra wired access points. It also has a learning curve and limited camera capacity, so it fits best when you want UniFi control in a modest setup.

Can someone please explain the difference between
Cloud gateway fiber
Cloud gateway Max
Cloud gateway ultra
Dream router 7.
Which one to buy?
Also cloud gateway Max comes with SSD can that be used as Storage over cloud?
The short version is that three Cloud Gateway (CG) devices do NOT have wifi radio. They're router device to receive internet from your ISP, then distribute to internal devices. You have to connect an Access Point (AP) to them to get wifi to your phone, tablets, TV, etc.

The UDR 7 has Wifi 7 (latest & fastest speed) radio & routing function, like the other 3.

UDR7 has some other functions better than CG, like PoE port.

This is prosumer devices so some business doesn't want wifi router and simply the gateway to distribute traffic.

Three CGs have difference in speed, up to 10 Gbps, and ports.

I have been thinking of getting this or the dream machine SE. Can this power the wifi 7 access points from ubiquiti like the dream machine can.
I like the form factor of this one and not needing to have a closet

Thanks OP for the Deal.
I'm a newbe at the network set-up. can i get the micro center deal (UDR7 ROuter and the access Point) to cover a 3 level house. in that will the Router and access point both work or only the Access point is used to connect and we cannot use the router to connect any devices.
I've RING cameras, will that be ok to goto Wifi7
can someone please advise

I wonder if there is a point in me getting it. My place is around 2/3 that footage and right now i am using an old router I found in a box when I moved and it's doing decently. lol. And I sure don't need to add on access points to one. i was hoping to get a router for more like $100. if it's really that great and I can do the paypal thing maybe I'd be tempted, though.
Depends on what you need a router for, current router's specs, etc. Aim for those needs and find a router that meets them for that price. You could save the $100 dollars for something else. If you find your current router fine, why spend more money on something you have functioning? You'll save even more.

My current one isn't good enough long term, but I've been surprised that even though it's only getting literally like 40mbps wifi speeds it's just fine for most everything... Obviously, downloading large files would be when that would be a bigger problem. Also I'm never using over a couple devices at once. my other touter was around 10x that speed and that was still out of date as well, but it stopped working so I temporarily was using this old old old one. But I am guessing one of the asus ones on sale for $50-150 would be good enough for my needs.

If you use WireGuard at all, the Flint 2 VPN bandwidth is almost double that if the Flint 3.
I made the mistake of buying the Flint 3 and ended up exchanging it for the Flint 2. The Flint 3 had worse range of probably any router I've ever used. Great speed at close range but basically unusable in the next room. I suspect this is due to the fact it only supports 2x2 MIMO, whereas the Flint 2 is 4x4 on all bands. Whatever the reason, I am very glad to be rid of it.

Very cute and convenient device, packed with feature that makes sense, like turning off/on the light on schedule, SFP port that can be used either as WAN or LAN, for the most part intuitive interface is constantly being updated and setting up standard stuff is a breeze, integration with camera (G6 Turret) is easy, WiFi 7 actually works.
A few minor things do not make as much sense - lack of USB port, top can get rather hot, range is decent but not great, single PoE port, interface is constantly being updated and often hard to find things because there is still NO search for settings.
For many years I have been using OpenWRT and this is like a breath of fresh air. It will not be as secure as a device with OPNSense or Junos OS, but for a home network this is as good as it can get at a very reasonable price and you can disable certain cloud features to reduce security risks.

$15/month will. Money well spent, as I pay it every month. A workaround would be nice though.

If you are happy with a random router, and you don't want to fiddle with networking, I'd probably go with some other consumer retail router

It's there, but not on all the screens. Frown Click on the gear icon for the settings page, then you should see a search box near the top left corner of the page. :-)

One other important aspect is that all of these gateway/routers do not have a bridge function. They MUST be your router. If you have a router you rather use because of the better reporting and control of flows, you may need to get the cloudkey+. Many people prefer the firewalla as the router and use a package to control the ubiquiti switches and cameras or use the cloudkey+ which has a SSD for camera recordings.
