The PS5 Pro is mainly a premium upgrade for players who want the best console performance, especially in a few games that benefit from higher settings and smoother frame rates. It can make sense for couch play after long workdays, and the extra cost may feel more reasonable if this is the first PS5 or if specific titles like GT7 in VR or Final Fantasy remake matter most. The main drawback is that it is not a huge leap over the base PS5, and the $649.99 price feels steep for the gains. It is a niche upgrade rather than a broad must have.
Couch gamers coming off long workdays, because the console lets them relax back with a controller instead of sitting upright at a desk.
Players chasing the highest settings and refresh rates in competitive games, because the upgrade can deliver the best graphics and frame rates at once.
Owners of a standard PS5 who mainly play a few demanding titles, because the upgrade is game-by-game and can clean up performance issues in those games.
If you already have a strong PC, the PS5 Pro is harder to justify because the PC library is much larger and many Sony exclusives arrive on PC after a couple of years. The console still makes sense if you prefer couch play and the PlayStation ecosystem.
For most people, it is not a big step up from the standard PS5. The Pro is mainly worth considering if you want the absolute best settings and refresh rates in specific games, but the upgrade value is game-dependent and often just cleans up titles that already had performance issues.
Yes, Best Buy has open-box units reportedly down to $564, and one buyer also mentioned getting a used PS5 Pro with a disc drive and extra controller for $580. There was also a report of 20% cashback when checking out at Best Buy with PayPal Pay Later.
Yes, certain games can benefit noticeably, especially GT7 in VR and Final Fantasy remake. Outside those titles, the Pro is mostly a refinement over the base PS5 rather than a dramatic leap.
Is the pro really worth it? I many game on pc with a 5080 and a 9800X3D on an odyssey OLED 49". I have the old ps5 on a c1 65" OLED. I sit like 10 feet from the tv. Idk if it's worth it if my pc is "high end" .... thoughts?

They have the slim with disc drive, extra controller and NBA2K for $480. Just ordered
If you really want pro version $170 price gap might be worth it. Regardless one is paying a significant chunk of money for either especially 5 years since the original ps5 release
Nowadays a PS5 pro or not, is for people that can't get a gaming or a laptop PC. The amount of games that you can play in a PC quadruples the PS5, as the PS5 is limited to PS4 and PS5 games catalogue. I don't count PS streaming, as the experience varies by internet connection. Also in PC there are ways to get delisted games and other games for a cheaper price.
I have a budget MSI pc and different experience playing on it vs consoles. Unless I'm able to get games much cheaper. I am able to access the hundreds of free oc games I've claimed over the years through epic games and prime gaming but I still prefer console between either

This kind of ignorant arrogance is literally the reason why the PCMR meme exists.

I skipped PS5 all together now Sony has been putting their exclusives on PC after a couple of years of the initial release. I have a huge backlog so i can wait.

What's wild is I had a ps5 day one but I finished TLOU2, death stranding, helldivers and days gone on PC. The ps5 exclusives I've played on the console were only the Spider-Man games, horizon zero dawn, astrobot and the ghost games. Sony has some great exclusives and some I'm not willing to wait years for.

Why is a 5 year old console still garnering 500 or 600+? Because people keep paying. Demand goes down, price goes down boys

Gamers with a high-end PC and a large PC library, because the console's appeal shrinks when PC already covers most releases and cheaper access.
Shoppers expecting a dramatic visual difference from a Pro upgrade, because the improvement can be subtle enough to feel unchanged.
Players who already own a standard PS5 and expect a big generational jump, because the upgrade is not a large step up.
