If you need storage, the no storage model doesn't come with the tray.
The storage tray costs an extra $19 so $179 for 512Gb is pretty good deal.

UniFi is a deep, expensive hole. I started out with this exact gateway earlier this year and have expanded to multiple switches and miscellaneous hardware. Their ecosystem is amazing for those that want a little more control over their home network without having to play network engineer everyday. It's the Apple of networking. It just works and you get addicted to expansion.

Could this be a good replacement for my aging Protectli Vault FW4B running OPNsense?

I run Unbound+DNSBL on it, would prefer to run that where DHCP lives to get automatic DNS registration from DHCP clients.

I have this router and have been using it for almost a year now. It's absolutely rock solid and coupled with two Ubiquiti access points has been a game changer for me compared to my old Eero setup. I'm even running my security cameras through it and using it as an NVR, which makes everything much easier to deal with instead of having to use multiple software packages for each type of device.

The UI is super easy to deal with and offers far more control compared to other setups. I would HIGHLY recommend it to anyone looking to upgrade their system and get the most out of it.

How many cameras are you running on it? I was under the impression you need the more powerful ucg fiber to handle anything more than 1 or 2 4k cameras.

Check out the capacity calculator on the website. It shows many many cameras you can config along with calculating load on the system. cloud gateway max can host 5 4k cameras.

For what you get, you can hardly call it "expensive". Unifi has enterprise capabilities, but at a prosumer price. Plus, Ubiquiti recently launched their UniFi OS as a standalone NOS for installation on any hardware the user chooses, for FREE.

Your statement about running security cameras and using it as an nvr made me take note that they might support other products.

And they do now, via onvif protocol.

However several important features are not available, specially ptz and motion detection according to their website.

"Motion detections, PTZ control, Audio, and other advanced features are not supported on third party cameras." https://help.ui.com/hc/en-us/arti...Fi-Protect

Nice price, especially with the PayPal 20%.. Just got a UCG Ultra a month or so ago. Don't need NVR or anything. Just trying to find a reason to purchase.. 🤔

Unifi has a black Friday sale, free shipping over $50, but tarrif charges listed
Where do you see tariff charges listed? I got all the way to check out, not yet ready to buy, and it does show "taxes" but a quick calculation shows that's simply my state's sales tax.

PS PayPal checkout pay in 4 stacks
That said, Paypal buy now pay later for 20%? What's the scheme there? What information are they collecting/selling such that they're willing to pay for 20% of my purchase? Which if I want that Cloud Gateway Fiber (hint, I do) getting it for $223.2 sounds very sexy. even though it isn't on sale.

I've been using Unifi Protect NVR for a couple of years and it has been a great Google Nest replacement. This is a great deal. Remember if you buy one without storage, you still need a plastic tray for an SSD. So, go with 512 GB, and set some cameras to record on movement only. Great deal, I just bought one.

New to Ubiquiti. I am on Eero wifi am considering making the switch. I also see the Gateway Fiber (https://store.ui.com/us/en/products/uxg-fiber) is also on sale - $179. Not sure what the difference is other than speed and no storage options? Does this mean no Ubiquiti apps with the Fiber?

No POE, if you intend to get into other Unifi accesories, you will have to spend even more on POE injectors or a switch with POE. You need the Gateway Fiber at min which has 4 POE+ ports
This if false. The UCG-Fiber has a single Pole port.
Source: I own a UCG-Fiber with one access point to the single port, because no-other are powered.
If this were on sale at this price, I'd buy this over the UCG-Fiber and spend the savings on a 8-port PoE switch.

Yeah their "Cloud" brand of products have the UniFi software that allow you to use their various apps, the "cloud" products are meant as "the brains" of your network setup, where as the UXG-Fiber is simply the a router/firewall. And yeah no storage on the UXG-Fiber, but there are 10Gbps ports on it, where as this one only has 2.5GbE ports which for most people probably is more than enough.

Do note that neither have wifi built into them, so you'll need a separate wifi access point, or possibly connect your Eero as an AP, I'm not familiar with that brand so unsure if you can take it out of router mode and only use it as an AP. If you want to get into the UniFi space but want an all in one unit with wifi built in, take a look at their Dream Router 7 which is also on sale for BF.

Also there is a Cloud Gateway Fiber, different from the one you mentioned, that has the cloudkey built in like this one, but with the 10Gbps ports like the other, however that one is not currently on sale.

Awesome, thanks for the clarification. I plan to (eventually) incorporate cameras into the network, so it would make sense for me to buy the cloud version (unfortunately no BF promo). Thanks again!

Yeah you really need to think about what you need/want with Ubiquiti products as they are more Prosumer oriented as opposed to consumer AIO products (Netgear, TP-link, etc).

For me I have a 10Gbps connection to a NAS, and 10Gbps fiber internet connection, and while I could deal with 2.5Gbps connections to each, $100 is a small price difference to pay to fully utilize what I have, so UCG-Fiber for me as I need those 10Gbps ports, although 2 are SFP+ which even more expense... but whatever, it's only money... that's why I look in SD, to save money elsewhere!

So, if I go with the Cloud Fiber Gateway to maximize my 10gbps internet service, I would need an access point (I'm thinking U7 Pro/XG), and a switch (Not sure which one, but I'd like to run 10gbps to a few locations as well as power my cameras via poe). There's a lot here to think about! lol
