I wish they would just announce that these either are or aren't going to work on the next gen systems.
I agree. It's important they don't make us buy this only to be retired bc they will move onto the next console in a few years. It should be consumer friendly and not lead to ewaste.
Look I am a big Xbox fan, and I have the 2tb version as the 1tb was a joke but, 4tb would be nice at like $250 but, not at this price.
As I said, I looked it up, a 2280 4 tb starts around $240, this should be close to this price.
first time learning about proprietary memory?
this is pretty standard industry practice. the psvita famously failed because of this. not saying it's okay, just letting you know that they all do this. they didn't have to go proprietary, they do it for profits and control.
I have an Xbox and bought the 2tb a way back but this is just rediculous. At this point just wait for steam machine or buy a pc. You're already entering that territory price wise. The convenience of console gaming isn't worth this price tag.
Who plays 4TB of games at a time? Unload all the games you're not currently playing onto a regular cheap SSD and move them if need be when ready to play. Easy money saved.

For that reason I'm more satisfied with the cheaper option specifically the 1TB variant under$100. The least amount of anticipated depreciation possible.

Makes you wonder why CoD games are huge. Almost like MS owns Activision, who creates huge installed games, MS creates proprietary storage standard, prices fixed, profit!!

This is a good deal for an Xbox locked storage upgrade. Not a good price in general but if Xbox is where you game this is the cheapest I've seen a 4tb for them.
I can tell you now they're not gonna allow you to take this to the next console though. There's a reason they locked it behind price gouging tech. It was not to be consumer friendly, it was to charge at a huge markup what should have been industry standard.
I'd say don't buy this unless you only plan for it to only be useful on an Xbox series console.
There was even at one point early into the series x/s release a cheap third party option that was a simple shell and allowed you to put in any nvme ssd you had into it. Microsoft shut that down quick with a software update that made the device no longer work. This is not a consumer friendly company. I've been waiting years for these to drop to normal prices and they just haven't so I've moved on from Xbox.

To be fair I just went through my 8tb Ps5 storage nvme, to delete some games, and to my surprise my call of duty game was only 68gb, where as games like MK1 (187.2gb), Assasins Creed shadows (164.8gb), and Jedi survivor (152.8gb) were the biggest offenders. These games are just ballooning lately it seems they're not even trying to compress files anymore.
