Right now Crunchyroll is trying to transition to a worse typesetting pipeline in order to match Netflix and Amazon run through the company OOONA (Based in Israel). I highly recommend not signing up for their service for the time being and active members should be encouraged to cancel. I did it around a year ago and yes used my AMEX card via PAYPAL, wouldnt take AMEX directly. Total came to $12 and thought it would trigger my Crunchyroll offer making it free but unfortunately it doesn't.

Correct. I had issues last time I renewed where it required an India card number though. There's plenty of sites where you can buy a new account with a year loaded or there's some where they'll log in, pay for the year with their Indian bank, and then you change password (I did this since I wanted my watch history and favorites to stay-- it didn't have any of my payment info on it so there wasn't any risk).
