I saw one floor model priced like that a few weeks ago but looked beat up. I passed by because I bought it for $200 and returned it because it sounded like a car with a bad serpentine belt and would squeal in the middle of the night

30 days is the acceptable duration with any retailer. For Costco, 90 days is the acceptable duration. Do you know why they reduced it from lifetime? Because of people like you. Sometimes people would use a laptop for 2-3 years and then return it for free and get the next gen.

It doesn't matter how many trips you took with your bag. Do you think it's acceptable if someone only uses it for 1 trip in say 6 years and then tries to return it? No. If your bag is broken, take it up with the manufacturer or the airline.

Great deal for $99. Have one of these and as long as you clean it with vinegar once a month it will work just fine... And it's Costco so if it dies you just take it back...

I don't recommend this. I've owned two of these and they both died the same way about 1 year into ownership. I have a friend who also has the same unit and his died about 1 year into ownership as well. It just randomly stops making ice and then eventually stops powering on.

I make sure to clean this unit using vinegar once every 2 weeks. Very unfortunate because I really love the type of ice it makes.

When you have an icemaker like this, do you periodically empty the ice into a tray and store it in the freezer? to avoid the melting?
You can't really store this type of nugget ice. I tried to put it in the freezer and it just became all stuck together and couldn't really break it apart. The good thing is how fast it makes ice. So there are times I just get up in the morning, turn it on before I start getting ready for the day and then there's enough ice for a coffee or tea within 45-60 min.

But not with just room temp vinegar but undiluted white distilled vinegar (5%) that has been heated to over 130⁰f and a contact time of a minimum 1 minute. It has a 5 log removal rate for e.coli, salmonella, and listeria monocytogenes. It has the same effect as 6% room temp chlorine bleach diluted to 1 scant teaspoon to 1 quart of water.

The price wins.
I paid more for pellet square ice (i like it very much thank you) so unless this product is crap $100 makes it a deal.
Also: costco warranty

I do not recommend this ice maker. Took this one back to Costco after a couple of months. There's a design flaw in that it constantly pours water on your countertops even though it has a tray to catch some of the water. Was constantly mopping up after the thing. You pull out the drawer with the ice and water goes everywhere.

Cleaning these simply with vinegar is definitely not enough. I have an Opal and it has to be opened up every few months. using r.o. water.

Anyone with one that doesn't believe me, take the back and top off and open the lid on the reservoir. You'll never just run vinegar through it again.

All ice machines need to be cleaned constantly and supplied with filtered water. These things are mold factories.

Does it keep the ice cold or do they just melt?
Keeps it cold... keeps it ice.

And what do you think the acceptance duration is mr. Holier than now. For a bag that's probably been used for 5-6 trips in that span? Do enlighten me.
For Samsonite quality (not great) and the way TSA & airlines treat bag these days (they run them through giant paper shredders just for giggles), 5-6 trips sounds about like what I'd expect.

I hate saying that. But that's about what I expect.

I had a similar (but different) unit a couple years ago. For us, the trick was to give it a good stir about 5m after putting it in the freezer to break it up again once it's no longer so wet. You'll have to feel out the ~5m delay to determine if your freezer/ice needs 3m or 7m, but that made a world of difference in storing the ice for us. It'll of course never be as "soft and crunchy", since it's only that way because it's only frozen at 31.9 degrees when you crunch on it - less crunchy when it drops to the ~5 degrees that your freezer is set to.
