It just seems it should be much cheaper considering the design is so basic. Everyone does say it makes a great cup of coffee but to be honest, I love the single cup of coffee I make in my $80 Ninja Pods & Grounds maker with my own coffee grounds and zero fuss or issues.

They both get you where you need to go, but to some the experience in the Mercedes is worth the uplift.
It's hard to describe the pleasure of hearing a copper boiler fire up to make my coffee. I don't own this one but paid $230 or so for the one with a glass carafe over 3 years ago. Currently my total cost of ownership is $0.21 per day, and once the 5 year warranty is up I'll be at $0.12 per day. Well worth it to me.

Can you rationally quantify the additional cost of a Mercedes when compared to a Honda?

I can't really notice either doing a bad job when I do a small amount compared to full load
