For those of you that don't care about reselling at some point, enter the set# into AliExpress and you'll get majority of sets for like 1/7th of the price. For example, the $630 Eiffel Tower, you can easily get for well under $100 on there. Should add it mostly applies to sets that have around 1k+ pieces. Smaller sets probably less likely to be on there. That is the true SlickDeal

Out of curiosity, are those just original legos in a brown bag or knockoff bricks stamped in the depth of China's fake industry?

There are more than a few ads where there is a bait and switch. I was looking for the Lego Christmas tree and found this. 7 pictures of the Lego Christmas tree, but only 1 picture of the item you will really get.

It's not original, but considering Lego also produces in China, wouldn't doubt the factory is across the street from each other. So far, I've built 6 sets and currently doing the tower as my 7th. MSRP would be around $2,700, but I've paid about $400. The quality has been outstanding and the only difference is "Lego" isn't stamped, but otherwise looks exactly the same. There are even times where you'll find better versions on AE with improvements or all printed pieces, where Lego would make them stickers.

Do you have any preferred stores on AE? Seems like a lot of hassle finding sets that are actually of good quality and return on AE is not as straightforward as on Amzn

I recently bought one from AliExpress. I could not complete step 1 or step 2 because of missing pieces and I looked through every bag. Now I have to hassle with returning it.

Looking at that set# 40573, looks like the only ones on AE are actual Lego. Otherwise all the other ones I see is for a light kit. I haven't really looked at small sets, but from what I've seen, they don't really get knockoffs probably because the official is already a low enough price. I know I've looked for Lego flower sets before that are like $30 and couldn't find them, but found many MOC flower sets. As for the tree, just putting in "Christmas tree building blocks", I did find this which actually looks nice.

Honestly, I would join or look over the Lepin sub on Reddit. Has a good guide on what to look for. And you can usually put the set# into the search for the sub and you'll see posts from people that bought it. After looking around and on AE, I've honestly came to the point of finding just whomever is selling the cheapest at the time and have had no issue. But the advice passed around just make sure seller has a good rating. I also usually do it when AE has good coupons to lower it further.

Another alternative is the Lepin guide should list some websites, small handful that sell sets along with many MOC that Lego doesn't make. People have great experiences from those sites, but imo shipping kills the deal, but then you do get the guarantee. I'd honestly just start with like a good $200 set you're interested in and you should be able to get it on AE for ~$25 before coupon code. Then just go from there. My first was the McLaren P1, that I got for $70 because I didn't fell like waiting for the price to drop more and it gave enough confidence to build my collection.

Never again Ali express. Some of the pieces didn't snap properly and it was a noticeable difference, feedback from a child who only plays with original legos. Might've looked the same, but I can get the brand name during their sales, 40-50% off if I'm patient, with my deal alerts.

Where in paypal do I check to find out whether the 20% cashback is in my account? How long does it take for the cashback to show up after the purchase?

Different strokes for different folks. Unfortunate your child's experience hasn't been great like mine has. But If you can get the Star Wars Venator for $400 and you're happy paying that, then I'm happy for you.
