The EliteBook X G1a is excellent overall (I grabbed it at $1,399). The only con is that this Costco model lacks the fingerprint module. Seems like a cheap way to differentiate this SKU from the significantly more expensive SKU found everywhere else.

Is there a model with matte screen, fingerprint, 64gb ram?

That combination (matte (WUXA) and 64 GB) doesn't appear to exist. I checked CDW, Microcenter, and HP only saw the 64 GB with the OLED.

the laptop is pretty good. i have their top of line g1a with 395 chip and 128G with oled display. compared with system it replaced (the xps 15). the machine is quite a bit lighter, maybe due to the xps 15 uses full metal construction and this one doesn't. the screen is very reflectivity but got quite bright. color display is as good as it gets. the 2.8k resolution does help a lot with the OLED text reading experience (which i had a lot of issue with on a 45 inch monitor and 77 inch OLED display). the ABL that plagued most of the large OLED screen is none-existent (but once again, it never existed since the first galaxy ultra which packs the same size screen).

the only two things that I have against this is 1: no way to add smart card reader, and 2: only one NVME SSD slot.

while it is technically requires 120W (or higher) USB C charger, it is quite happy with 100W charger that i have around, unlike the xps 15. making this work well with a lot of docking stations (unlike the xps 15 that complains if you don't use the 120 or 140w charger, and would drain from your battery instead).

but my biggest surprise is how well the 395 with 8060s GPU performed, especially for the power it uses. it faster than my 3070 laptop GPU, and the entire system power draw was like 80W under full load. so the fan noise is substantially less than the xps and my thinkpad workstation, yet perform the same if not better.

i am looking forward to get a 395 SFF PC for home use.

If OLED is better or preferred, would an anti glare or matte protector make a difference? I have an old XPS touch but glossy and i can't stand to look at it. I haven't tried screen protectors don't know if it'll affect the touch or image quality.

I don't think it's a valid comparison .390/395 machines are in a different class. You didn't mention price but I guess you coughed up a cool $2K on that machine, compared to this deal at $1100

I paid MSRP. anyone buy those laptops aren't personal expense, so it is not like the cost matters.

but the comparison matter because it share the same chassis, battery, MB and screen. the only thing i said that's outside of posted system is the performance.

I mean if they're not a personal expense, I wouldn't look for a deal. I wouldn't even be allowed to b/c my org only buys from CDW.
I wasn't sure about the shared chassis. It's common for them to use different materials/cooling/etc

Can't find any posts online about this laptop's Linux support. I'm curious if sleep/resume work well.

How's the oled brightness outdoors? And how's the battery life?
