Exactly it is a good deal people that don't own one or never used have only to compare prices elsewhere! Have any of them seen what has happened to soft drink prices lately makes this item cheap!

The reason is likely because it's political - Soda Stream is an Israeli company which has some of it's operations in settlements/occupied territory.

It's a good deal for the starter. I always recommend getting an extra 1-2 bottles so you can have the water well chilled prior to carbonating. If you're handy, a refilling system or running the terra from a 5 to 20# CO2 bottle will save you money in the long run. If you refill (as I do), I suggest having 2-3 CO2 bottles as well, as it's easiest and safest to fill about 2/3 full.
