As much as I don't like Costco, I think this is good for a college kid because of the extra warranty.

It's actually 699 for the M4, 899 for the M5. I went ahead and got the M5 for 200 more. Bummer the old keyboard for the M2 isn't compatible so I had to get one of those too.

Update - Sorry, didn't notice this was cellular, I was referring to WiFi only.

In store pricing looks to be same as online for the M5 - $1200 for 13" 256 and $900 for 11" 256

Depending on when they are going to school.. maybe. They likely won't need the cellular on this one. The plain wifi model is $200 less for an M4 (700) vs the M5 model (900). Plenty of YouTube comparisons between the 2.

Wasn't worth going to an M5 to me, I just need the cellular and a newer model than my M1 air. The battery in the pro models sealed the deal for me, since they seem to be the only one that can actually hit the ~10 hour rating that Apple boasts with mixed use.

The expensive membership that doesn't get you much in return. Their "deals" have either been lackluster or too late. They often charge for shipping. The stores don't always update the prices. The staff tends to be rude and treat you like an inconvenience if you ask a question. A trip to Costco is a time suck. You pay in bulk for lower quality produce that tends to be expensive compared to retail. The 2% back has major hurdles to get over compared to other stores. They make you go back to the cashier to get that back for no reason.

I could keep going. Costco used to be a good place 5 years ago. These days , I stay away.
