I have two phones (work and personal). Android phone: no alternative billing and cheapest is 10.99/mo. iPhone: alternative billing with 2.99/mo deal. Same lapsed account.

HBO Max Basic with Ads is showing a Black Friday promo that drops the monthly price to $2.99 for 12 months, often through the app, browser, or third party billing flows like Apple, Amazon, Roku, or Google Play. The strongest draw is the low price for existing, lapsed, and even some new accounts, with many setups carrying over to other devices after signup. The main tradeoff is the ad load, which can be frequent and sometimes front loaded, and the plan does not include live sports or 4K. A practical budget pick if you can live with ads and device specific setup quirks.

  • The alternative billing option can show a $2.99 per month ads tier for 12 months.

  • The ads tier can be accessed through Apple Pay and Apple-managed subscriptions on iOS devices.

    NoCallerIDLolHE1tyrion_sd

  • The deal can work after a lapsed period when the offer appears in the HBO Max app.

    xkaokaoxJedi5gameplayer

  • The Basic with Ads plan can stream in HD for some viewing setups.

What if you don't have an account? It seems like I'd have to sign up for at least a month in order to even create an account.

Can confirm. Alternative Billing shows up inconspicuously under "Renew subscription". $2.99 for the lowest tier with ads. Says "Black Friday deal", valid till December 1st. For new / lapsed subscribers, I guess.

Is this only for users who already have their accounts connected through their alternate provider?

Thanks. It worked for me on iPhone app. I logged in and towards the bottom is a button saying alternate billing. Click that and the Black Friday 2.99/month for 12 months shows up. Billed through Apple.
