Is this a printer that will turn you into an 3D printer mechanic before you even print anything or is it print ready out of the box?

Bad idea to buy refurbished. These units are used.

Regardless you need to become 3D printer mechanic to troubleshoot otherwise once any 3D printer breaks down either its sitting in the corner collecting dust and desk space.

I'd argue that the K1 SE for $111 and a 2-year warranty is a MUCH better deal: https://slickdeals.net/f/18884566-refurb-w-2-yr-warranty-creality-k1-se-3d-printer-up-to-600mm-s-111-20-free-s-h

The K1C has an enclosure and a built-in camera, those are literally the only differences. Both are things that can be added to the K1 SE later if you decide to upgrade. The camera is a nice but unnecessary extra, and the enclosure is only needed for specific filaments like ABS.

We have 2 K1c and 1 k1 max at work that print 24 7. They were both bought refurbished. Only thing we have ever had to do is replace the hot end. That's it. They literally probably have over 1000 hours each.

The K1C also has a carbon filtration. If you want an enclosure, filtration, camera later it'll cost you more than the $88 difference. The ability to print ABS, nylon and carbon fiber in a tidy enclosure is easily worth the difference to me.

That one doesn't claim to have the upgraded unicorn nozzle.
I wouldn't consider the camera unnecessary. I check my prints from the other side of the house or running errands.

All printers will take SOME maintenance. You'll need to clear clogs and fix extruders occasionally.
Having said that, I got rid of my last Creality 3 years ago and I couldn't be happier. Whether their designs are good and worthwhile can be argued all day long. But...their quality control, last I had one, was absolute garbage.

How does this compare side by side to a Prusa MK4?

Bought this as a refurb 8 months or so ago. UPS drop kicked it into my yard and broke the glass door and physically dented and warped the bottom metal frame. Creality shipped my all the replacement parts and instructions, I just had to get them the pictures. Biggest pain was cleaning up all the glass, but I now have 80+ hours of printing on it since I got it.
I did buy a "knock off" Creality camera for it off Amazon which was $21 and works perfectly.
Biggest pain was getting the enclosure fan to shut off with ASA filament and Orca slicer.
Super happy with this purcahse going from an Ender 3 Neo

This also has an all metal extruder and hardened nozzle, which is why they put the "C" on the end - it's ready out of the box for abrasive filaments such as carbon. That being said, one can print remarkably sturdy* parts out of even PLA or PETG, and unless I'm mistaken hardened steel nozzles are pretty readily available.
*- (for static loads at least; neither is great for impacts)
