What are my option if I still want service? Downgrade to $40 plan ? any other tricks to port to another provider
I'd expect it goes to $50 not to free...
For the unlock, is there anything needed to be done or is it automatic after 365 days?
Also, if I get a 2nd line, is that first month $30 instead of $55 for the line cost?
TIA!

The phone should unlock automatically without issue after 365 days. Rarely, they don't and you'd have to deal with Metro support, but the rate of unlock issues seems very low based on reports over many Metro slickdeals threads over the years (happened once to me with an Android Metro a couple years ago, got it resolved by messaging Metro on Twitter which I recommend over phone or chat support.) I believe it's just due to Metro clumsiness when this happens to people. Somebody in the other thread theorized it happened to them because they ported out of Metro (as opposed to just abandoning the number they ported in), but that theory is probably wrong based on others' experiences porting out.
Am looking into doing 2 lines myself but don't know the answer to your last question yet.
first page I enter the phone number, takes me to the next page asking for the account PIN. I enter it and click "Login" and get an error "Sorry, but we were unable to save your changes. Please try again."
there is a link beneath, says "Reset Account PIN," which I may try but for now I will wait a day and see what it does tomorrow.
was hoping to order a second ASAP, hopefully only needing to spend $30 on the month service for 2nd line on the same acct, and think I need to activate to do so.

You'll need the phone in hand to access online account since they text one time pin so you won't be able to order 2nd line until 1st one comes in

but like you said i can't get in to my account to order another, as it looks like it sends a 2FA code to the new phone, though i am in a bit of a weird scenario where i don't know which number it is texting, as it just shows (***)***-*123 and both the ported number on the new phone and my main GV number on my main phone (which I entered when checking out) end in 123. and it is becoming more common for 2FA code-sending-systems to no longer text GV numbers, so hopefully it is texting the ported number and not failing to text my GV number.
