This is NOT a recommendation for or against buying one, but rather a heads up just so that no one is surprised IF the new model is released shortly after making a purchase.

Even factoring in the time between the last regular non-4K release in the Apple TV HD (4th gen) and the first 4K release (5th gen overall), 1 year + 11 months, would result in a total average of 28.33 months between releases and still mean that what you said is wrong.
Let's say hypothetically this upcoming gen doesn't launch for another year. While that would be four years between releases, the end result would be an average of 33.25 months, which would still be under three years..

Gemini Results:
"Apple does not follow an exact, consistent schedule for Apple TV hardware releases, but new models typically launch approximately every two to three years.
The time between releases has varied over the product's history:
- 1st Generation (Jan 2007) to 2nd Gen (Sep 2010): ~3 years, 8 months.
- 2nd Gen (Sep 2010) to 3rd Gen (Mar 2012): ~1 year, 6 months.
- 3rd Gen (Mar 2012) to HD/4th Gen (Oct 2015): ~3 years, 7 months.
- HD/4th Gen (Oct 2015) to 4K/5th Gen (Sep 2017): ~1 year, 11 months.
- 4K/5th Gen (Sep 2017) to 4K/6th Gen (May 2021): ~3 years, 8 months.
- 4K/6th Gen (May 2021) to 4K/7th Gen (Nov 2022): ~1 year, 6 months.
The most recent models, since the introduction of 4K, have seen a pattern closer to a two-to-three-year cycle. The current third-generation Apple TV 4K was released in November 2022, and rumors suggest the next model is expected in late 2025, which would continue the approximate three-year gap.If you are considering a purchase, MacRumors provides a detailed Apple TV Buyer's Guide to help you decide if it's the right time to buy or wait for the next refresh."

Edit: I was able to return it in store.
You're prolly mistaking this for the regular model without ethernet and 64GB (instead of 128GB).
