FYI, but a new Apple TV was supposed to launch soon, at least according to rumors. https://www.macrumors.com/roundup/apple-tv/
This is NOT a recommendation for or against buying one, but rather a heads up just so that no one is surprised IF the new model is released shortly after making a purchase.

All of the things you hate about it are the reason I was happy to pay a premium for it. It's extremely fast for a smart TV box and doesn't have any junk like branded buttons or ads on screen. The only reason I don't have them on all my TVs yet is because of the rumored updated version but that rumor has been going on so long that I might just grab these at this price

Once you understand that you cannot claim those three months if you had claimed them previously with another Apple product, it doesn't.

Are you waiting for the supposed next gen?
I personally am, but do your own research + due diligence. It's still a great deal.

Also, you're prolly better off making this decision by yourself, meaning ignore Slickdeals and don't take advice from people here (hell, myself included). SD seems to be littered with confidently incorrect people and others who always promote or recommend a product/model simply because it's what they bought (for better or worse), often largely (if not solely) in order to justify their decision to themselves...

Good luck.

I literally bought 2 last time they were at this price. One at Costco and one at Best Buy. After trying desperately to force myself to like them, I returned the Costco one. Still have the other. It's basically brand new and still in its box for months now, after multiple attempts to try and like it when I first got it. Didn't work with continue watching with Netflix. Doesn't support live TV unless you use an app (ie no free google tv channels, no dvr compatibility with YTTV). I bought a silicone remote condom for it within a couple of days because the remote is too angular. No quick buttons on the remote to load streaming apps. The only appeal of it is aesthetic with the much vaunted "buttery smooth" interface, which is completely moot since you use that 1% of the time to simply select an app and then you're watching a show and it's absolutely irrelevant. Disrecommended. I got an Onn Plus 4K, installed Projectivy and haven't looked back.
So basically you came on here to confess to everyone you didn't do your homework.
Now where did I put my tiny violin...

Damn I just bought this for $120 used on eBay. I guess I can return it and get this new one but that's annoying

edit: eBay seller is a big box retailer that allows free returns. I'm pulling the trigger on this!

We have a previous generation one in the bedroom but on our other TVs use Nvidia Shields. Watching YouTube videos with ads on the Apple TV after getting used to Smart Tube is a chore. If you're totally in the Apple ecosystem and don't watch YouTube videos/pay for Premium then it's a great device.

This thing is an excellent Plex client. Maybe only the Nvidia shield tv pro is better, but that's debatable

Exactly, those are the same worthless codes that BB and Target have every other month. They used to work before, not so much for the last 1-2 years.

Great deal. Too bad you can't side load YouTube with no ads. Nonstarter for me
