Activated both the Phone and Tablet today. Phone will go in a drawer for another month, unless I need the data for something. The NXTPaper modes are interesting to play around with. You can even watch Youtube in Black-and-white. The color paper mode may give a throwback Gameboy color feel.

Is there any general advice for de-bloating the tablet? i.e. which apps to remove? I recall reading that a number of apps "reactivate" upon restart even if they were marked as disabled.

I hope to use it for web browsing, videos, and reading primarily around the house, so it's not super critical. I figured it would help keep some RAM free. I deactivated the "RAM Boost".

I saw this reddit thread mentioning Canta and Shizuku for debloating Motorola phones:

https://www.reddit.com/r/motorola...ith_canta/

EDIT: Chase $14.08 credit posted today. I got an e-mail stating I successfully redeemed one of my Chase Offers. This was a couple of hours before I activated t he devices, but I just saw the e-mail now.

Can confirm all the Verizon apps on the tablet re-enable themselves after a reboot if you disable them via the Settings app. I used Shizuku and Canta and it seems to have worked. The apps I removed now show "Not installed for this user" in the Apps list, including after a reboot.
Interestingly, a few of the common bloatware apps, like Facebook and Mobile Services, were disabled out of the box and never became enabled. I uninstalled them with Canta anyway because why not.

Thanks - I manually disabled a few today when Mobile Services stated installing games out of the blue, but did not play around with Shizuku or Canta yet.

I will check again after a reboot.

I will also say that the color paper mode is growing on me. I played a few retro games today, and it gives a neat aesthetic.

i hadn't activated mine yet, but i've read that Verizon has now for their prepaid brands gone from a 60 day to a 365 day unlock policy. lovely. this phone is pretty useless to me at this point.

My 60 days of service ended on 1/23/26 and it didnt unlock either. I turned it back on and tried again tonight and it still showed as locked. I left the wifi running and put the ST SIM back in. A few minutes later the "device pulse" app said it updated. It looked like a bunch of phone stats including SIM #... so i decided to try my other carrier SIM again. It showed as LOCKED still but a few seconds later, 5g connected and it worked.

I can't definitively say that there is a connection between that device pulse app updating and my phone unlocking but perhaps it did.

What does it say in "Network Lock" section in bottom of the About Phone?

My cell also unlocked yesterday. Exactly 1 day after 60 days. Shows Network Lock as Unlocked. Swapped out ST SIM with my SIM. Cell works great.

Been getting an email every day from StraightTalk for a week now, to "Refill today to keep your service running." Best way to stop these emails? Thanks.

Phone should automatically unlock if you paid for the required 60 days of service and it's been approx 60/61 days. If it doesn't, call the unlock dept & find out why.

I activated this phone on 11/20/2025 with straight talk. Let the ST plan expire and then on 12/23/25, I rebranded the phone to Tracfone and paid $15 for their cheapest monthly plan. Now the Tracfone plan has expired, but phone is still locked. It should be unlocked by now, right?

---

Update: So I went to https://www.tfwunlockpolicy.com, entered the IMEI from the phone, then on the next page, it said there was an active phone number attached to the phone and wanted me to provide it (even though my Tracfone plan expired). I enter the phone number anyways, and got a "Device Unlocking Eligibility Result" page (see screenshot attachment) that says my device meets the criteria for unlocking. I enter my personal information and after clicking Submit, it just takes me back to the home page of https://www.tfwunlockpolicy.com. Haven't received any email either so not sure what's going on with this.

I'm curious what personal information they ask for? With this one-year unlocking change, I bet Verizon is super happy to collect and sell more people's PII.

So I noticed today after I did a system update to Android 16 that my phone got unlocked. When doing security updates on Android 15, that did not help with the unlocking. So updating to Android 16 might have been the key to getting the phone unlocked and not sure if the request I made on https://www.tfwunlockpolicy.com/ really did anything helpful.
