FWIW, you can get "real" spouts for a couple bucks apiece on Temu and AliExpress if you buy a multi-pack.

This 5 gallon gas can is mainly valued as a cheap way to store and pour fuel, especially when similar cans have been hard to find under $20. The supplied nozzle is the biggest drawback, with reports that it is awkward, slow, and can leak if used often. Still, the can itself is described as serviceable, and replacement spouts or pump setups can make it work much better. It is a practical budget pick if you can live with the safety nozzle setup.

people who are willing to maintain/repair the nozzle to stop leaks because commenters said leaks can be fixed by replacing the o-ring/gasket (and even described disassembling the nozzle assembly to prevent leaking)
OJ47 BoastfulJuice3071 likeaw
people who need a 5-gallon gas can and have been struggling to find one under $20 because this was called a "real decent price" at $12.88 and commenters said they couldn't find anything under $20 for months
brotherhpj41 OJ47
car and tractor owners who want to pour fuel quickly from a 5-gallon can because the nozzle was described as "incredibly annoying for anything but a car... or maybe a tractor," implying it works best for those bigger-fuel jobs
unksol
homeowners filling seasonal equipment like a 2-stage snowblower who want easier refueling because one commenter used an automatic fuel transfer pump with the can and said it made filling their snowblower much easier
leecewest
buyers who plan to use a spout replacement to speed up filling because one commenter said a replacement spout let the can empty in about 2 minutes versus ~10 minutes with the supplied nozzle
Philosopher

buyers who need a can that seals well out of the box because multiple commenters reported the can doesn't seal around the nozzle and leaks, with one saying "cheap cans always leak"
TheWellKnown OJ47
people trying to use the can for small power equipment (like small engines) because commenters said the nozzle is painful/a pain in the ass for anything besides a car or tractor
unksol
people who want a "safety nozzle" setup for fuel jugs because one commenter said VP Racing fuel jugs are "absolute garbage" specifically when used with the safety nozzle
sup3rson1c
people who want the older "old school" style cans because commenters noted regulations may make those older-style cans illegal to make now, limiting options
SharpStag6437
people who don't want to deal with nozzle-cap gasket wear over time because one commenter said after 2-3 years the nozzle-cap gaskets tend to not seal well and leak gas/fumes (even though replacement gaskets help)
likeaw

Common Questions (5)

Yes. Replacement spouts and kits are available cheaply from Temu, AliExpress, Amazon, and similar sources, and some replacements can empty the can much faster than the supplied nozzle. One workaround is to swap in a real spout or a push-button style instead of the safety nozzle.
brossow toothandnail Philosopher Lillybulldog
Yes. It is described as a real decent price, and one shopper said they could not find any gas can under $20 for months. The smaller 2.6-gallon version was even noted as costing $1 more.
brotherhpj41 OJ47 StrongMint325
The included safety nozzle is usable but can be annoying and may leak if used frequently or if the can does not seal well around the nozzle. Some also report that the nozzle is surprisingly decent compared with other safety nozzles, but still not ideal for frequent use.
Timless TheWellKnown Bedazzled_Peenus
It can, but the nozzle is awkward for small equipment and is better suited to filling cars or tractors. For snowblowers and similar tools, a fuel transfer pump or a smaller can makes filling much easier.
unksol leecewest
Yes. A described modification removes the nozzle's internal spring and keeps it open until manually closed, but the o-ring must be replaced or it will leak. Another common fix is using a replacement spout, which can cut emptying time from about 10 minutes to about 2 minutes.

This nozzle isn't as bad as the others. It's surprisingly decent. Will still leak if you use it frequently

Right, I think regulations now say that the old school cans are illegal to make now though...which sucks.

You can still buy cans with normal nozzles. They're just stupid expensive.

These things don't seal well around the nossle and then leak. Cheap cans always leak.

Surprisingly enough Amazon also carries spout replacement kits to bring you back to sane style gas cans (pre 2009 EPA/carb regulations).

You can fill this today for less than $13. Gas is below $2.60 a gallon in a few states.

Yeah, hadn't even checked Amazon because cheap plastic crap is usually cheapest directly from China, but just ordered a 5-pack for $7 from Amazon (https://a.co/d/a8oJAPK). Crazy.
