Notes:
First off, this is NOT a great guitar. It is cheap. It's parts are cheap, and it's likely going to need some technical work ("a setup") to get it playing well.
For most consumers looking for an inexpensive electric guitar,
I advise you to skip this one and instead buy a name brand (e.g., Squier, Ibanez, Yamaha) and/or from a place that will set the guitar up for you. Setups usually involve making sure the neck, nut, bridge, and intonation are properly adjusted. The two reasons I am posting this deal anyway is because: 1) I am addicted to buying guitars and this one is as cheap as I have ever seen it, and 2) its body is
made of very light Paulownia wood. Weight is a huge factor for me.
There are numerous YouTube videos reviewing the guitar, providing the pros and cons (i.e., here's an
8.5-minute generally positive one [youtube.com], and another
8.5 minute one that is more negative [youtube.com]).
For those looking for the slickest deal on other Sonicake gear, be sure to check against Amazon on the pricing. Amazon is currently out of this Sonicake strat (and has been for about two months), but some of their other gear is both in stock and cheaper.
Update: Amazon now has the green model in stock. For example, the sale price of the 30" Kids Guitar is
$75.00 [sonicake.com] at Sonicake.com and
$63.99(before tax) at
Amazon [amazon.com].

I have owned a Monoprice Indio Cali SSS guitar. It was a gift and it was fine. As I recall, I had to make some minor adjustments to the neck and bridge to get the action the way I liked -- but it was all pretty minor. That is, I used allen wrenches to make the adjustments and didn't need to file any sharp frets or anything. My Indio was 6.84lbs. The quality you get for the price--I have seen them as low as $70 to $80+tax--is very good. There seems to be plenty of commentary on YouTube about Monoprice guitars, and they seem pretty well received. I liked it, but it wasn't love. Ended up trading it at my local mom&pop; they recognized it as a solid beginner guitar (especially since I brought it to them in great playing condition--I think I had even changed to a Graph Tech nut by that point).
I did buy the Sonicake strat, but have not received it yet. My expectation is that it will be right in the middle: functional, but require me to adjust the action and intonation... probably more so than the Indio strat. I am hopeful that the frets will be okay since they are supposed to have rounded ball ends, but that may be wishful thinking by me. My main expectation is that the will be Sonicake significantly lighter in weight--by a pound or more--than the Indio. That's the attraction for me. Update: I received the Sonicake. It weighs 5.74lbs...so 1.1 lbs lighter than my Indio Cali. Neck is straight. Action is low without buzz. Frets are fine, and indeed the rounded ends are very nice. They are not mirror shiny, but they are polished and good... no grit or roughness to them anywhere. I might need to adjust the intonation on the lower three strings (E, A, and D), but I will play some more first so the strings can stabilize. Tremolo is very tense/tight; I rarely use the tremolo, but if I did, I'd say it needs adjustment. The guitar shipped in a single box. The guitar was in a shroud and the box itself had a few pieces of fitted styrofoam to keep the guitar from moving around. The single box was completely wrapped in plastic. If it was packed any less, I would expect it to come damaged, but in my case, the guitar came looking nearly perfect. There is a tiny 1/4" superficial scratch to the finish about two inches below the bridge -- which is only noticeable if you are doing a thorough inspection. My wife says it is so light that it feels cheap. The tuning machine for the high e string is not exactly rotated exactly the same as the others. This does not affect playability or function, but it shows some sloppiness in the construction. I got the black--which is matte... i think all of the guitars models are matte. It would look nicer if it was glossy, but it still looks good. Just started playing with it--will update if I noticed anything interesting. Definitely has a strat quack.
