Good price. I've gotten the subscription before but didn't listen to it as much as I thought I would. It's just a lot harder to listen to a book summary than something like a podcast, which has a more natural flow and narration.

They offered this deal last year for $10, I got it and hardly used it, but here I am again debating whether or not I want to sign up again haha

Well my subscription seems to expire on Dec 4th, so I'd guess it was their previous Black Friday deal. Probably the deal either lasted a bit past Black Friday 2024 or else I got a free trial week + 1 year sub for $10.

Make sure to cancel as soon as you buy this, unless you want it to renew for $100. It will end the subscription at the end of the 1 year window and not immediately

Perplexity can do all of that, so long it can access the content. So, it can't summarize a book you haven't bought and don't have a digital copy of. The rest can also do it, though YMMV as they don't all have real time access to the internet like Perplexity does. HTH

Bank Of America CC used to support creating one time virtual credit card with a set limit, but they don't have that anymore. Which all credit cards support this now?

I purchased a subscription last year around BF, like a lot of folks in this thread. I didn't find the Pro features especially useful, although I will probably renew without them for $15. I was pretty good about listening regularly in the first half of the year, although I fell off after turning off notifications. I use it for non-fiction that I'm otherwise not inclined to read (self-help, money/business, etc.). ChatGPT could accomplish the same thing, but I'm unlikely to to actually do that. I'm skeptical that others who didn't use the app will be any more likely to do so either.

When I opened the app on my phone today, it offered me a year for $12 (rather than $15). It showed the same 85% off, but the base price was $79.99 instead of $99.99. Not sure why. I was a previous subscriber and my subscription expired a few day ago.

Ouch. Found this out the hard way. I even had a reminder set but I ignored it. I am asking for a refund but I am not optimistic. Mea culpa.

Having said that, when I am in the car driving alone, mostly during ski season, I like to swap over to it as a change of pace from a podcast. It seems to have the classic non-fiction books. I like knowing their substance generally but I am not so interested that I will spend hours reading it. The summaries are fine.
Update: A few minutes after my refund request to [email protected] I received an offer to a) fully refund, b) keep the subscription for a year with a 90% refund (which accepted) or c) pay the full renewal fee but get upgraded to their top tier. I have to say it is pretty good customer service. I was pleased with their response.
